My name is Emily and I'm an MD/PhD student in biochemistry. I graduated from the University of Rochester with dual degrees in biochemistry and psychology and a minor in ethics with a 3.94 GPA and honors in research. I've been tutoring for over 5 years and have helped over 30 students succeed in their classes. I love helping students develop stronger study skills, create a study plan that works with their schedule, and find ways to connect with and understand the material.

For one-on-one sessions, I like to go over class material and identify exactly which areas students may be struggling. I prefer to work directly off class material so I can guide my questions and resources to what teachers and professors are focusing on, and imitate that style in my lessons. Understanding what instructors are asking can be a huge hurdle to overcome, especially in the "weed-out" courses that a lot of students have to take!
I specialize in academic tutoring across a range of biology and chemistry topics, including biology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. A strong foundation in these subjects is not only essential for excelling in class but also for performing well on standardized tests like the MCAT. Having scored in the 95th percentile on my 1st try, I spent a lot of time developing strong study habits and test-taking skills to exceed on standardized exams that I share with my students.
In addition to academic tutoring, I offer personalized pre-medical application planning services, assisting with various aspects of the medical school application process from extracurricular involvement recommendations, personal statement writing, primary and secondary application editing, and interview preparation. I have a deep understanding of the importance of the application process, selection criteria, and effective strategies for presenting oneself to medical schools.
