As someone with 15 years experience as a college level instructor of philosophy, logic, critical thinking and writing, I bring something different to my English tutoring and exam prep. In fact, I’d like to think I teach my students exactly the kinds of intellectual skills they will need for their academic futures. 

Whatever else it might entail, being ready for university requires that you are a skillful processor of information. When you think about it, isn’t that mostly what we do in school? We take in information by listening and reading. We reformulate and expand that information by creatively analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating its content. Finally, we contribute to the web of information by expressing our own thoughts in speech or writing. 

Reading, reasoning, and writing — what could be more elementary than that? Perhaps not much, but neither can anything be more complex. What you are asked to do in college is to process information at the highest levels.  The right tutor can give you the foundation for getting there.

I especially enjoy helping high school and college students who are strong in science and math but working to improve their language arts and humanities skills. I can assist college and high school students with a class they are taking, an essay they are writing, help them with the analysis of novels, plays, poetry, or essays, or lead them through a course of focused preparation for the SAT, ACT, or AP exams. I have helped hundreds of students prep for these exams, and have even self-published a book on the SAT. And when it’s time to apply to college, I can provide even more help. I have worked with equally many students on their college admissions essays, guiding them through the process from original conception to final draft.
