I work with college-bound and college-aged individuals on a daily basis and feel very comfortable interacting with young people possessing diverse skills and backgrounds. Though currently working with older students, I have also worked at the elementary and middle school levels. In my role as a teacher, I have been intimately involved with curriculum development, learning communities, ESL teaching, teacher mentoring, student-teacher mentoring and evaluations, classroom visitations, recruitment of students and teachers, professional development, academic and career advising, and committee involvement. In addition, as a member of the New England Independent Schools Re-accreditation Committee, I have first-hand knowledge of the ingredients necessary for a successful secondary and post-secondary academic experience.
I am very familiar with the high school and college setting and the attributes a young person needs to be successful at an institution of higher learning and in the “real world.” In all of my teaching positions, whether at the high school or college-level, I have assumed administrative roles serving on committees, initiating new programs, and collaboratively working with others in a myriad of activities. I thrive on creating a positive environment when I am working with students. Creativity and an ability to quickly assess a situation and develop a successful strategy to meet the needs of that “issue” are hallmarks of my personality.
Being a good teacher requires one to work with colleagues and utilize a variety of techniques to reach all students. Assessing those techniques is also essential.
