I have extensive tutoring experience in Economics and Finance materials, as well as significant experience teaching Math and CFA materials. Some of the more common subjects I help with during these extra sessions are Excel, Access, Statistics, Programming, and general business courses. I've passed all three CFA exams and would be happy to help with your level I, II, and III exam prep.

I started tutoring my peers during high school, and continued doing so once I entered college. During my college experience I tutored for the UW Economic Student Association, individuals from the general student body, students in my dorm, and for the UW Athletic Department, averaging around 20-30 students per semester. I love teaching, so when I finished my degree, I continued my tutoring. I like to tailor my teaching to an individual student's needs, and change examples, teaching styles, and methods to suit.

I've been helping students pass their CFA Exams for over a decade. I have had CFA students asking for everything from one-off help on a specific topic or concept that is giving them particular trouble, all the way through comprehensive help for their entire exam prep. Comprehensive help has ranged from a planning session or two mapping out a study schedule starting a year before their exam and monthly check-ins to make sure they are on track, all the way through a 60 day crash course doing 3-5 hour days of daily study. My most requested help is meeting a 1-3 times per week to go over all exam material (usually with Kaplan Schweser), topic by topic, coupled with walking through practice exams, quizzes, and question banks. That said, I'm happy to tailor my teaching to your needs/material that you want to use. My approach generally focuses on time management to make sure we get through all of the material, calculator tips and tricks (knowing your calculator well really gives you a leg up in the exam), and trying to pare down the hundreds of specialized formulas you need to memorize into a much more manageable generic set that still covers all of your needs, while allowing you to focus on the concepts and where to apply the formulas, instead of just massive amounts of rote memorization. I also regularly tutor students in finance, econ, and stats during the fall and spring semesters, and unsurprisingly, those are the areas that I most often get request for help with for the CFA exams (specifically Quant, Econ, Equity, Fixed Income, Derivatives). I'm happy to answer any questions you have via Wyzant chat. And if you prefer, I often get requests to hop on a phone call to discuss your specific exam prep needs prior to starting. I'm more than happy to do that if you're interested. Thanks for looking, and best of luck with your CFA Exam prep! It's a long journey to finish, but worth it! -Bill
Finance,

Finance

I've been tutoring Finance courses for the past 15 years, with the last 7 in the Boston area. I've taught everything from MBA courses at MIT, to Financial Derivatives at Harvard, and intro finance courses at all of the major Boston area schools (and most of the minor ones). My education background is in Econ and Math, followed up with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program, the gold standard of finance designations. I've passed all three CFA exams, and can help you prep for taking the exams, should you want to pursue the designation. Professionally, I consult, work with a number of startups, and tutor. I've done everything from financial modeling for failed financial products following the 2008 market collapse, expert witness prep related to litigation against now-defunct investment banks, investment analytics for life insurance companies, capital raising, and simply helping small businesses get a handle on their financial position.

I have an extensive background tutoring Economics. I worked for the Athletic Department of a Big Ten school while I attended University, tutoring for Econ and Finance courses almost exclusively for between 10-50 hours a week. Post graduation, I've been working as a financial analyst, though I continue to tutor on the side. I've also completed all three CFA Exams.

I have extensive familiarity with Excel, both in academic and industry settings, and over a decade of power user experience. I've even worked with a some of the individuals involved in the development process for the software itself (and was even able to show them a thing or two in the process). My familiarity with Excel includes basic formula construction, lookups, pivot tables, array formulas, macro recording, macro/VBA coding, custom functions, charting/graphing, statistical analysis (histograms, correlations, regression, etc.), solver/goal seek, Monte Carlo simulations, data downloading, automated data retrieval and analysis, and many other functions/uses (just ask if you have something specific you need help with). Basically, if you want it done in Excel, I can probably help you do it.

Visual Basic

I've done an extensive amount of programming in VBA in Excel, both for personal usage, as well as small business needs. The majority of the programs are designed for things such as automatic data downloading, daily analytics tasks, Monte Carlo simulations, and similar analytical needs. I've helped individuals learn everything from how to use the basic macro recording, setting up their own custom functions, and setting up their own analytics programs.

Statistics

Statistics

I primarily teach Finance, Econ, and other business/MBA/CFA courses. That said, help with Stats is a pretty regular request I get from my regular students. Many of the courses I tutor involve stats to various degrees as well (the CFA material cover intro stats reasonably in depth, Econometrics is all stats, and simulations and various Excel programs regularly require stats). Though I tend to prefer my Norma specialties, I'm happy to discuss tutoring for stats classes for lower level and intro classes. If you're deep into a stats degree, however, you may be better off finding another tutor. I'm good at the lower level material, and a fair amount of the applied stuff, I've simply not had the need to learn many of the more in depth topics.

Knowledgeable tutor, wonderful to work with!!

Bill is great teacher. Whether you're a beginner seeking to grasp fundamental concepts or an advanced user, Bill's combination of competence and people skills makes him a very good choice. He introduced me to macros, taught me how to record and edit them an area I had no understanding of. He also patiently understood my modeling needs and recommended an effective solution. I will definitely engage Bill again if I need to in the future.

A very knowledgeable and helpful CFA tutor, with who both my son and I felt very comfortable.

Bill helped my son arrive at a study plan for the CFA Level One exam. Even though my son initially was resistant to having any tutor, he shared with me that Bill was, indeed, very helpful to him, and he thanked me for finding Bill, with whom my son feels very comfortable, even after just the first lesson. I also appreciate Bill's keeping me in the loop regarding my son's progress, and regarding what they accomplished in the tutoring session, I would highly recommend Bill to other students without any hesitation whatsoever.

Brilliant and kind

Bill, teaches me from a level I can understand. Can answer my questions, no matter how many time I ask, gently and knowledgeably. I trust his ability. I'm back to school for 1st time in 30 years, so he is not only teaching me statistics but also the ways of the computer. I feel very fortunate to have him as my tutor.

Very helpful

Bill was able to go through sample questions and explain them, as well as answer my questions when I asked how the answer would change if parts of the problem changed.

Fast-Responder, Super Flexible, Overall Fantastic

I met with Bill for my first time yesterday. The night before, I was struggling with an assignment due the next day at midnight (one that is allotted 3 days to complete). I contacted Bill at 2:00am and he got back to me within 7 hours (impressive for the time I had sent the request). Bill was super friendly, and we worked through my problems within 3 hours. Bill was super comfortable taking the problems from my homework set and translating them into simple-to-understand, applicable real-world scenarios. Although Bill was only due for 3 hours, he stayed an extra 20 minutes to help me wrap up my problem; he didn’t rush the session, and was super patient with someone who only had basic finance experience. We worked with excel and FactSet, and he was super knowledgeable with the excel functions and models. It’s my 3rd- soon to be 4th year- in college and at first I was somewhat nervous about having to ask for help at my age. I guarantee Bill can tailor his teaching methods to you. I anticipate on asking Bill for tutoring in the near- future, and I would highly recommend anyone struggling with finance, reach out to Bill.

Knowledgeable

Bill helped me with my fixed income analysis midterm exam. Some topics weren’t his strong suit because I guess he hadn’t looked at it for a long time, so it took him some time to actually understand it before being able to explain it to me. But overall, good session! I’m much better prepared for the exam now.
