Hello! I’m Katharine and I am a high school History teacher and writing coach. My interest in Education has led me to work in tutoring, teaching and mentoring. I even won an award for it in college: The Chancellor's Champion of Teaching and Learning Award.
I offer free 30 min. consultations!

Tutoring Experience (Overlapping):
2 years HS group and individual tutoring, all subjects
2 years HS 1-on-1 SAT/ACT prep
3 years as an Undergraduate Algebra Teaching Assistant + Peer Tutor

Before Wyzant, for two years, I ran my own business editing, proofreading + coaching writing for college students.

English/Writing Coaching:
Depending on your needs and stage of the writing process, I can:
Help outline an assignment, from reviewing the prompt to structuring the paper
Read drafts and provide coaching on structure, tone + style
Edit and proofread drafts for grammar + clarity
Help strengthen literacy skills

SAT/ACT Prep:
I know the SAT/ACT like the back of my hand, so I know that success depends on planning, motivation and consistent practice. We will:
Learn about the history of standardized tests: where they came from, what they measure, + what they are used for.
Talk about goals, test-taking strategies, and make a study plan
Review any previous scores and look for strengths and weaknesses
Do timed practice problems/tests. I will collect data as we continue to meet on individuals’ progress
I will assign extra resources for practice between sessions according to individual needs

I have been mentoring for over five years now, which informs my tutoring style. I mentored ninth graders in a college-bound program for two years and struggling undergraduates for three years. These experiences showed me that academic success can be built from the ground with a growth mindset, consistent effort, and collaborative environment. I would love to be on your team, supporting your or your child’s success!
