Hello, I'm Randall. I have a M.S. in Software Engineering and a B.A. and a M.A. in American history, and I've worked an engineer and architect in the information technology field for over 20 years. Most of the important technology innovators throughout history have shared a love for both the sciences and the arts. I help students by bringing that right and left brain thinking to my tutoring by creatively adapting my approach to different learning styles. I work as a Principal Solution Architect for a top 10 technology company, and when not doing engineering work, I help career changers and students through my work as a part-time Adjunct Professor in Software Engineering and a tutor.

I teach in a variety of areas in Software Engineering, cloud technology, and DevOps, but I specialize in tutoring Python and Java. Students who are working through an organized curriculum (taking a class or self-study) will be an ideal match. I'll get to know your curriculum and books, and I'll help you get a deep understanding of the foundation so that eventually it will all start to seem simple. If I do my job, you will eventually wonder why it seemed so hard in the first place.

Programming is a skill that anyone can learn, but like I lot of students, I struggled when I changed careers and started learning Java, my first language. Back then, I would have never imagined that I would have ended up being a professor teaching the same subject. But I eventually learned that having an important foundation means everything. Like many students, I moved on to the more advanced classes too quickly, before I had mastered the foundation that I needed.

This is the foundation of my teaching and tutoring style. I help students determine where they are struggling and focus on building on a solid foundation.
