I am a mother of two grown daughters, and grandmother of four grandchildren. I substituted for four years after I completed my Associate's Degree for education. I started working full-time as an In-School Suspension Teacher, and later was hired as a Librarian Assistant. I have worked with children of all ages.
Often I worked with ESL and special needs children who needed extra help in their classes. I love Arts and Crafts and also enjoy teaching that as well. During school testing I was given the challenged students to administer the test to, mainly because these students didn't function well in a structured classroom. They worked better in smaller settings and fewer students.
I love to read and have a very creative imagination, so I make the stories believable. I read the bible to my grandchildren whenever they visit. When I worked in the Library, I created a game to encourage students to read. I picked random books throughout the library and listed them for the students. In each book I left a piece of paper with a letter on it. They looked at the book, some read them and then they filled out a book review on each book. The letter was placed in a riddle in which they had to solve. There was 105 books on the list. The one that read the most and solved the riddle won a $50 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. They were also interviewed by the local newspaper.
I would enjoy teaching students of any age. I live in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, but I sometimes go to High Point, with my husband. He works there and I stay in the hotel during the week, so I could also tutor in High Point or Greensboro, as well. I look forward to helping you explore new worlds.
