Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the student experience and fostering academic success for diverse student groups. From 2014 to 2016 I worked for READ Alliance as a Tutor and then Lead Tutor. I became a Teaching Assistant for an economic class in my junior year, and for a college course in John Jay College. In 2021, I graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a bachelors of arts in Science and English. I received my masters degree in Human Development and Education at New York University in May 2022. While working towards my master’s degree, I became a full time 7th grade ELA teacher in the South Bronx for a year. This experience allowed me to be responsible for curriculum and fostering a supportive and inclusive class environment. Also, I learned many approaches to help students become better readers and writers by using “P.A.M.”, “I Do, We Do, You Do”, and consistently used “Glows and Grows” as a tool to provide feedback to students that will allow them to see their growth as a learner while also understanding what areas they need more help in.
Now, I am an adjunct professor at CUNY Lehman College. I have been teaching college freshmen for two years with 50+ students both inside of the classroom and on Zoom. Alongside teaching Freshmen courses on campus and on Zoom, I am currently a writing tutor for the college. Being a one-on-one writing tutor allows me to learn more about what students are struggling with and enhance my communication skills to better support all students that are in different levels academically. As a writing tutor, I see many different assignments from students who come from Nursing, Business Management, and Social Work programs. Having this opportunity to work on these assignments has helped me learn to scaffold content when new students come in with similar assignments. As more students come in, I am able to use new methods to help them understand what the writing prompt is asking and provide them with examples from previous students.
