I'm Anastasia! I'm a PhD researcher in English Literature, and I've spent my academic career studying art, music, literature, and history (BA in Liberal Studies, MA in English). I love the humanities in general, but I specialized in English because of how beautiful, complex, innovative, and structured the subject can be simultaneously. There is no single definition of good writing or communication, but there are some timeless rules that allow creativity to flourish—and knowing those rules is just the beginning. I am passionate about helping high school and college students reach their full potential in writing, reading (close and distant), literary analysis, and so much more by learning not just how English works, but how to use it well as an individual.
I first started tutoring ten years ago. Since then, I have taught two university English classes (composition and poetry), and I have one year of experience as a junior high and high school substitute teacher. In my lesson plans, I introduce the topic in a thought provoking and creative way, then directly teach the material. After that, I always allow time for students to apply or discuss the material for themselves. All of this can be adjusted based on the material and the student's individual needs.
I want to help students as much as possible, and I welcome any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
