I received a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Akron, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1977. My specialty was in Roman History with an emphasis on Augustus and the Julio-Claudians. In addition to this, I studied Egyptology (including the language), and I engaged in the study of ancient cultures, myths, and, of course, Latin and Greek. I also attended the University of Cincinnati, doing graduate work in ancient history. I have off and on kept up with the Latin, especially as a substitute teacher at Walnut Hills High School in the Cincinnati Public School system, where I would work on translations from Latin to English.
I have done many things since, including writing (I am trying for my first book publication), and studying whatever I find interesting. I believe that learning is one of the great purposes in life, and is an end unto itself. I hope I impart this to my students by teaching them it is fantastic to learn new things, and it is not nearly as dull as they think. One-on-one with students is the way I like best to work, so I can deal with a student's specific needs, and find what suits them best.
I have been writing off and on since I was young but have only now become serious enough to try and publish my first fiction work. English has always been a strong suit of mine through my entire academic career, and thanks to my writing, I have a firm grasp of grammar and a robust vocabulary. I could therefore help with basic English as well as writing anything from school essays, creative fiction to theses. I am more than willing to impart my knowledge and patience to an enthusiastic student.
