I received a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Akron, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1977. My specialty was in Roman History with an emphasis on Augustus and the Julio-Claudians. In addition to this, I studied Egyptology (including the language), and I engaged in the study of ancient cultures, myths, and, of course, Latin and Greek. In addition to this, I studied Egyptology (including the language), and I engaged in the study of ancient cultures, myths, and, of course, Latin and Greek. I also attended the University of Cincinnati, doing graduate work in ancient history. I have off and on kept up with the Latin, especially as a substitute teacher at Walnut Hills High School in the Cincinnati Public School system, where I would work on translations from Latin to English.
I have done many things since, including writing (I am trying for my first book publication), and studying whatever I find interesting. I believe that learning is one of the great purposes in life, and is an end unto itself. I hope I impart this to my students by teaching them it is fantastic to learn new things, and it is not nearly as dull as they think. One-on-one with students is the way I like best to work, so I can deal with a student's specific needs, and find what suits them best.

I have been writing off and on since I was young but have only now become serious enough to try and publish my first fiction work. English has always been a strong suit of mine through my entire academic career, and thanks to my writing, I have a firm grasp of grammar and a robust vocabulary. I could therefore help with basic English as well as writing anything from school essays, creative fiction to theses. I am more than willing to impart my knowledge and patience to an enthusiastic student.

My major was Classical Studies in college where I specialized in Roman history. I do, however, have a firm grounding in other facets of ancient history, such as Greek, Mesopotamian and Egyptian. My enthusiasm also extends to Western history, where my knowledge allowed me to test out of the subject in college and gain 12 credits toward graduation. I also have good grounding in American history and civi

Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is a part of knowing English, as well as writing English. I bring years of experience in reading as well as writing to the art of vocabulary, and the use of the right word to express the right sentiment. I don't care for word drills that much, and prefer to have students learn by reading, and seeing the word "in situ" as it were, so they can see the context.

English

English,

English

I have been writing off and on since I was young, and have lately taken it up seriously. I am, at present, attempting to publish my first work, a novella, and I write essays and thought pieces. I have always had a penchant for the written word, and I bring years of experience to the table, which I would be happy to pass on to willing and enthusiastic students who want to improve their own work. It goes without saying that I am grounded in grammar and vocabulary, and can help with that as well.

History

Classics,

Classics

My BA was in Classics with an emphasis in Ancient Roman History, the study of which I continued at the University of Cincinnati. I took college level Latin and Greek, and continued with this off and on during my years as a substitute teacher, especially at Walnut Hills High School, where I would divert myself by translating passages from Caesar's Gallic Wars.
Social Studies

Social Studies

One of my greatest strengths is western history and culture, and it's where I scored some of the highest grades in my college years. I have also read widely on the subject myself over the years, and have picked up quite a bit in that time. Once again, I want to stress that the study of these subjects need not be boring or dull, and that history itself is fascinating since by studying the past, we learn more about ourselves.

Music

Voice (Music)

Voice (Music)

I have sung with the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus, and with the Cincinnati Opera, and between the two, have years of singing experience. I have studied with J. William Seale, a graduate of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a student of Andrew White. Mr. White taught Sherrill Milnes, a baritone at the Met for years, and Mr. White himself was a student of Sidney Deitch, who mentored the great Leonard Warren, one of the greatest baritones of the Metropolitan Opera. Bel canto style is my specialty, though I would prefer to start a student out on the basics, then hand them on to someone else, since I want to stress academics.
