My name is Pedro, I am a passionate, caring and dedicated multilingual educator. I hold professional teaching certifications in Secondary Social Studies grades 5-12, Special Education 7-12, Teaching English to Students of Other Languages K-12, and Spanish Bilingual Education K-12. I am currently pursuing another bilingual extension in Portuguese.
After 10 years of teaching, I have served students in various settings where I have passionately supported multicultural, multilingual and monolingual students. I have improved the performance levels of students to help them achieve mastery level scores on state assessments. Currently, I am teaching children World and U.S. History in Spanish. Meaning, I am helping students learn a new language or strengthen their home language, while teaching students history as well. To create this unique environment, you must have a deep understanding of your content and understand how to help children learn a new language. I have mastered both of these skills.
My teaching methods are engaging and effective. Students learn best when they feel safe and excited to learn. Therefore, I support all learners by encouraging, supporting and ensuring all students are having fun while learning. Some teaching strategies I use are total physical response, incorporating manipulatives, visual aids, graphic organizers and connecting content to real life events or situations. I am a firm believer that students learn best if they believe they can apply what they have learned to the real world or their own lives. I have a deep understanding of how to improve literacy skills for all students. Helping students become better readers and writers in English or Spanish is my passion. I also value the academic, social and emotional needs of students of different ages.
In my teaching experience I have successfully taught grades 6-12 in General Education, Sheltered Instruction, Dual Language and Co-taught classrooms at the High School and Middle School level.
