About Jason

Bio

After teaching elementary school for 10 years, I began tutoring full time in order to help a wider spectrum of learners. In all subjects, I work with students ranging from 2nd grade through high school. I received my Master's in Education from Texas State University in 2004 and have helped hundreds of students to pinpoint their challenges and find success.

In all subjects, I work with students ranging from 2nd grade through high school. I received my Master's in Education from Texas State University in 2004 and have helped hundreds of students to pinpoint their challenges and find success.

Rather than simply helping with homework, I like to have a clear understanding of a student's personality and learning style. That way, we can work together to change a mindset from "I'm bad at math" or "I can't write" to "I'm working on it" and eventually to "Whoa, I'm pretty good at this!"

Learning proper handwriting is absolutely essential! Students are able to express themselves and organize their thoughts so much more efficiently when they learn to form letters properly.

The phonics program I used with my kindergarteners, 1st, and 2nd graders was Saxon Phonics and Spelling. My students started with letter/sound correspondence, CVC words, and word endings to digraphs, blends, diphthongs, while building dictionaries of high frequency words. Even during my student teaching, I really enjoyed working with students on phonics. I loved seeing the looks on their faces when they would string sounds together and realize, "I'M READING!"
