About my background, I grew up and graduated high school and college in Japan. My major was food science and nutrition, and after I graduated college I received nutrition certification. I am passionate about cooking and learning new foods. Also I love to visit a different international restaurant to get a new recipe. After I married, I came to the US and began to take ESL and regular college classes. It took a while due to my relocation. I finally graduated from community college in 2007 and additionally achieved BAS degrees for Technology Management from Northern Arizona University in 2011. I am native in Japanese and can teach reading, writing and speaking. I used to teach Japanese language and culture for children for a small study group. I personally have some experienced translating English to Japanese for documentary Japanese TV show. If you need to translate English to Japanese, I also can help with that. If students want to use my textbook, I can prepare and provide the session including multiple choice skill tests. Otherwise, students have to provide their material and questions.

Excellent Teacher!

Yasuko Sensei is an excellent teacher. My wife and I are begginer japanese students but we have different levels of proficiency with learning the language. Yasuko was able to pick up on this and tailor the lesson to provide effective instruction to the both of us. We also recieved assistance with our plans for the upcoming trip. Yasuko was able to give expert advice on where to go and where to stay that you can't find on your standard travel websites and forums. I would absolutely recommend her as an instructor.

Welcoming and knowledgeable

We started with Yasuko to learn some Japanese before a trip there next year. From day one, she started with what we expected: basic sounds, characters, and phrases. She then went above and beyond and spent time teaching body language, casual vs formal, and things we might encounter when we go. We're looking forward to more sessions and we're feeling more confident that we'll do well when we go!

Really helping with my understanding of Japanese

Yasuko Sensei is a wonderful tutor. She has personalized the lesson to teach content that I am struggling with the most. For example, grammar and sentence structure is my weakness and Yasuko Sensei is very prepared with powerpoints and worksheets to help. I am very happy I found Yasuko and am able to meet with her in-person. She also has the same course materials available as my JPN101 class at ASU so that is very convenient. Thank you Yasuko Sensei! I am very happy to be learning from you.

Fun and Super Helpful Tutor!

Yasuko is a fantastic tutor! The first session we talked about where I was currently at and what classes I've taken already. I also talked about where I wanted to be in a few months and she planned out a schedule to get me up to speed on topics I should know. She uses a mix of scanned textbook pages (so you don't have to own your own), worksheets, and docs that she made, which makes learning a breeze (just remember to do the homework for practice)! She is very patient and explains topics extremely well, I'd recommend her to any level looking to up their Japanese skills!

Kind and patient tutor

Yasuko helped me to learn more vocabulary and katakana which I didn’t have much knowledge in. She also broke down some simple sentences so you could fully understand them. If you said something wrong she also explained the right way to you to make sure you have a full understanding. I wasn’t able to take a lot a lessons with her but in that time I definitely learned a lot.

Tutor responded:

Taylor ,Thank you for participating in my study of Japanese. We were studying together with how to pronounce Japanese vocabularies and food items, vegetables, insect, school etc. You are still a high school student and have more possibilities from now on, so please do your best! If you have questions about Japanese, feel free to ask me. Please continue studying Japanese by yourself, you will keep reading and speaking (don't forget what you have learned it). If you want to learn more Japanese, please come back anytime again!

Wonderful Tutor

Yasuko Sensei has been great in the lessons I have had with her. I have taken classes in the past and she was able to work with me to find my level and also review some things I needed to revisit. She is very well organized and has a lot of really helpful material to supplement the lessons. I look forward to all my lessons with her!

Tutor responded:

Thanks, Danielle san, I am so glad to meeting with you! I always scope and identify each student’s level and provide as much as I can give the best materials and practice for your desire Japanese level and providing additional skills and success. Each person is different style of effective style learning, so I agree repetitions are important. The wise proverb is "What one likes, one will do well" like you doing now. Being that the person makes an effort for the favorite thing eagerly even if it is anything, and progress being early. What one likes, one will do well. Great job!

Patient, helpful, and very nice!

Yasuko has been a great help so far! She's very accommodating to my level and needs as a learner and in regards to my travel itinerary. We use a good mix of real Japanese school learning material and her own original teaching and ideas; It's always a pleasure talking with her and learning something new.

Excellent Japanese sensei!

Yasuko sensei does a great job teaching the fundamentals of the Japanese language For those who are new to or relearning (like me) Japanese, her teaching style and focus is perfect. She teaches well rounded lessons; covering written, spoken, and reading aspects through Kanji, Katakana, and hiragana. On a personal level, she is friendly, patient, and willing to work with your schedule. I highly recommend her as a tutor.
