I have always had an interest in seeing students succeed in their classes to meet their educational goals. I have been a practicing professional planner for over 27 years. Although not in the teaching profession, I write, proofread and review documents in my daily work as a government employee in the transportation planning field. Being a supervisor, I am charged with teaching, mentoring and supporting them to meet my employees' professional development aspirations.

The best qualities that I have in my one-to-one relationships with others is my understanding of their situation and patience to help foster improvements. I also had a brief 2-year stint as a tutor for a local tutoring company in 2005 -06, working with students from the 2nd - 10th grades. I worked with students in the No Child Left Behind Program as well as students who needed help in specific subjects such as writing and math. I believe that my previous experience as a tutor will also benefit how I work with the new students I will be tutoring.

Prealgebra is the bridge between arithmetic and the more advanced math courses. It is important to convey to students what formulas are and how to how to use them in solving problems. My approach would be to review the math assignment with the student, reading instructions as needed. Next, I would show the student how to solve a problem if they are unsure, and finally, I would have the student work to solve the problem.

During my school years and into college (mid-1980s), I took math courses up to Calculus 2. I feel most competent in tutoring at the prealgebra level.

English is needed in communicating and successfully completing work in various schools subjects. I have always had strong grammatical skills and have worked to hone my comprehension and vocabulary skills throughout my education and into my professional work experience. As mentioned in my bio, I write, proofread, and correct various documents at work on a daily basis.

I believe that writing can be a challenge to most people, in
