What’s it like to be tutored by an Emmy Award-winning writer with a background in television and film? Effective and fun! Ray was a founding member of the PBS television series Between the Lions, teaching reading basics to millions of students through songs, animation, and storytelling. He was a reporter/producer for ABC News “20/20," and has produced documentaries and educational materials with Scholastic, the A&E Network, the Library Video Company, and Random House Children’s Media. He is also the author of the beloved children’s Beginner Book from Random House—Squirrels on Skis!

Ray began tutoring a select few students back in 2012, but as word spread among parents about his success in helping boost SAT and ACT scores, he quickly became one of the most sought-after private English tutors in the Fairfield County Connecticut/New York area. One family even hired him full-time to oversee the entire educational development of their three children, from grammar school all the way through to their ultimate acceptance at Dartmouth College. Now, with the new reality of the virtual classroom, Ray is able to offer his tutoring services well beyond the East Coast, even into Canada and beyond.

Whether it’s for the long or short term, for standardized tests, AP prep, college essays, research papers, Latin, History, or Political or Legal Studies, or just general improvement in classroom, Ray’s style is collaborative, engaging and results-oriented. And his experience is not limited to pre-high school and high-school students alone—he has worked with young children to improve their reading skills, as well as with Ivy League college students to refine their essays and sharpen their research papers. In all cases, his guiding principle is to bring real value to his students' lives, while never wasting their time.

I have taught public speaking to both students and professionals. Part of my Masters Degree at the Fairfield University School of Corporate and Political Communications involved working with individuals to make their speaking styles more effective. Social Studies

As the former Editor-in-Chief of a leading educational publishing company (Human Relations Media, Inc.) in New York, part of my job was to research, write and produce educational programs for high school students in politics, government, history, economics and foreign relations. My programs won nearly every industry award, including "Best of Show" from the Society for Technical Communications. As part of my research, I would tutor individual students in schools across the country to see what areas of the social studies topics where most in need of explanation. This helped me to develop a teaching style that is creative, fun, comprehensive, and adapted to the individual needs of the student.

Awesome Tutor

Helped me with my common app. essay. He was very patient, knowledgeable, and really helped me express what I wanted to say. I had a great time working with him.

Incredibly knowledgeable, approachable; Easy to understand

Ray really listened before he gave his feedback on my essay. He pointed out the positives, asked me questions about what I wanted to communicate and gave me examples of where I achieved my goal and where I fell short. When I did not understand his point he was able to explain it differently (e.g. by showing me with specific examples). After just two sessions, I feel so much better about my personal statement and the college application process in general.
