My name is Ilya and I am on Wyzant offering tutoring in Russian, Hebrew and Arabic, as well as world history to people here in the Chicagoland area. I enjoy learning and working with other students, so I look forward to tutoring you whether you're in high school, college or grad school.

I'm a graduate of Lake Forest College with a B.A. in international relations and I've studied at the University of Chicago, in the Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC) department. Recently, I worked as an English-Arabic translator for a website. I'm a native speaker of Russian (fluent) and have studied Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic for five years+, as well as Comparative Semitic linguistics. I am able to teach students at the beginner or intermediate levels and help them with reading, writing, speaking skills or preparing for written exams (including placement tests).

I first began studying the Arabic language at the university from in the Summer 2010 and since then I've done translation work going from Arabic – English as well as going vice versa. In addition, I have prior work experience doing English-Arabic translation for websites and apps. I mainly help students in their first, second, and third years of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). I also can work with students interested in learning Colloquial Syrian Arabic (Damascus dialect). I've recently completed an Arabic certificate from the University of Chicago Graham School.

Great 3rd Hebrew Lesson

I am a complete beginner when it comes to Hebrew. We are now working on Lesson 4 for next week. What has been particularly interesting is Ilya’s depth of knowledge of the subject matter. Everything from modern Jewish culture to biblical references to ancient history he ties it all together nicely. It’s not just going through a textbook. It it always a very interesting discussion.
