I have worked in Higher Education for a decade at two Ivy League institutions where I counseled hundreds of families on the financial aid process in both English and Spanish. My areas of expertise include FAFSA/CSS profile completion, award letters analysis, exploring loan options, billing questions, appeals for additional aid, and navigating study abroad programs.
I also collaborated extensively with my admissions counterparts during the Early and Regular Decision cycles to ensure that students were aware of our policies. I routinely participated in virtual as well as in-person presentations and initiatives to select academically-gifted students who faced socio-economic barriers.
In terms of writing, I graduated with a History degree from Hamilton College: one of the most writing-intensive institutions in the country. I have experience with a variety of writing styles such as research assignments, persuasive papers, admission essays, and several types of citations formats. Most recently, I advised a client on their historical analysis of Yale University’s oldest African-American fraternity and a doctoral research proposal on the application of Need-Affirmative policies.
As a tutor, I primarily specialize in history, writing composition, and Spanish language assignments; I can speak fluently as well as read and write in Spanish. I began tutoring with Hamilton’s Higher Education Opportunity Programs where I instructed recent high school graduates on how to improve their writing abilities. During my time as an educator, I worked as a full time tutor in mathematics for two years and regularly communicated with families about their student’s progress in our sessions.
I first like to understand what your learning style is so that I can use techniques that will help you meet our goals for each session. I ask that you be punctual, prepared, and communicate any issues such as rescheduling or cancellations in a timely fashion. I look forward to meeting with you soon!
