As a certified coach with an MA in Composition and Rhetoric, my teaching style is not only rooted in mechanics but also in understanding students' unique learning styles and passions. I enjoy moving students from frustration and angst to confidence and triumph. Laughter plays a huge part in learning, so fun is a key element in my teaching style. I teach my students to tell stories in compelling ways. Witnessing thoughts morphing into words, then drafting to a page, and meeting the world via polished written or spoken words is exhilarating.
I'm skilled at helping students with all types of writing - college essays, entrance essays, scholarship applications, technical writing, resumes, creative writing, speech writing, and even message writing for the purposes of job search and networking. Conversational English, public speaking, and live business communication (presentations, negotiations, interviews) are topics that come naturally to me.
Writing students won't find a red-penned revision with harsh criticisms scrawled on a page. We'll discuss the pieces and how to make each element fit together with a purpose. We'll talk about repeatable patterns and structures that work but don't stifle creativity. Writing must bring thought to life with a variety of words, so I encourage expanding one's vocabulary daily.
My experiences as a speaker, online trainer, and podcaster allow me to help students bring a literal voice to their written works. My entertaining nature allows me to add small nuances that pack a large punch in presentations that would otherwise have audiences scrolling mindlessly.

Finding the right word is about painting pictures, composing verbal music, and even smelling and tasting the description on the page. The process involves an imperfect conversation with yourself or with others that explores a menu of what might fit. I ask many questions of my students that have them digging deeper than just a thesaurus page. We learn new words. We find new ways to use old ones. By the end, we can see each other's mental pictures and neither of us is at all bored. This is the point of well-stocked vocabulary.
