I taught English in both general-only and inclusion seventh-grade student populations for three years at a large, diverse middle school in a district receiving Title I funds. I am certified in social studies, family and consumer sciences, and K-12 art, as well as 5th - 12th English and Language Arts. My academic strengths are close reading and writing. Art is often integrated into my lessons to reach all types of learners. Having trouble with that pesky narrative your teacher needs you to write? Let's start with a comic book and move to a more formal format. I strive to review, teach, assess, and re-teach or enrich academic content in ways that are easy to understand and fun, catering my lessons to the individual as opposed to the content while maintaining rigor and high expectations. You can learn to be smart!
I am always kind, friendly, and approachable to my students and treat them as equals. No two students learn alike, so why would I teach them just alike? I ask plenty of silly questions myself, and I will always be accessible to you when you have what you think might be a silly question that is surely more important than you realize. I love questions! While I love the classroom, it is time for me to reach out to students in a one-on-one or small group environment.
This is my favorite way to work with students in the classroom yet often becomes lost in the testing culture. Sometimes in a class of more than twenty students, individualized attention becomes almost impossible, and most students will not ask for help on their own. This is how students fall through the cracks. My strength is working with students individually or give individual feedback regarding work. I have a passion for reading, writing, and literature, as well as forming meaningful relationships with all of my students. It is my goal to get to know you and your personal interests in order to find the best way to reach out to you in a way that will teach you what you need to know and won't bore you to death! I mee

My degree in human sciences included a built-in business administration minor, and I successfully took classes in both high school and college in management, production, marketing, advertising, project development, grant writing, and economics. I have worked as a low-level secretary for a construction-site superintendent, where my responsibilities included keeping up with expenses, materials usage, and running errands, with occasional on-site clean up using a backhoe. After college, I worked in a legal setting for over three years. I am experienced in writing copy and business letters, minor website maintenance, and proofreading/copy editing. General skills in this area include familiarity with Microsoft and its Office Suite of products, client relations and communication via email and telephone, and transcription/typing (approximately 90 gwam). I enjoy the creativity behind merchandising and understand the math behind retailing.

I have held a job since I was 16 years old. I have worked in retail, child care, education, office settings, the law, and art. Since I was old enough to speak, I have wanted to be everything you could possibly want to be, with the exception of doctor or nurse (no blood, thank you). I am also an experienced coach with a kind, compassionate heart. Encouragement and support can be expected from me in the area of career development, and I will employ all methods necessary, whether it be networking for a shadowing opportunity, taking surveys, researching online and with books, or choosing the right college or alternate path to help students find their true calling and success in life.

Microsoft Word is a program I use extensively to create intricate documents that include pictures, tables, and special formatting. I have experience using Pages for Mac as well but prefer Word. I am experienced with using Excel/Numbers to create accurate spreadsheets accounting for money and other quantitative data. I can use these programs to accomplish other tasks such as creating checklists or forms. My creativity shines through use of PowerPoint/Keynote. I have a firm understanding of creating an aesthetically pleasing presentation using photos, graphics, tables, videos, animation, and sound. I enjoy preparing colorful and creative presentations that convey information and also use sound design principles without overwhelming the viewer with information. Google Apps (Drive, docs, sheets, slides, classroom, etc.) were used extensively in my work as a teacher, and I can make all documents, presentations, etc. compatible with all three programs or convert them to a PDF.

I have participated in or coached some type of cheerleading or gymnastics since I was three years old. Most recently, I was the coach of our school's football and basketball cheerleading squad, consisting of 7th and 8th grade girls and a boy. Basic tumbling skills, cheer motions, jumps, strength, conditioning, and stretching are emphasized, as well as body positions required to execute higher-level tumbling and stunting.
