A former writer, editor and high school English teacher, I am now tutoring students for the SAT/ACT tests and high school English class work. For the SAT/ACT, I draw on a variety of test strategies such as those included in the College Board SAT Study Guide, The Princeton Review Reading and Writing Prep and Barron's SAT Writing and Reading Workbooks. I review several strategies with my students and let them decide which strategy works best for them.

I always ask my students to take a diagnostic test before we start working together so that I can identify weaknesses and track the student's progress. The student can administer the test him or herself or I can do it for a fee. There is also a practice test on the SAT website which can be used as a diagnostic test.

I have been tutoring for four years and find the work challenging and fun. The college prep tests are tricky and require logic and practice. Reading comprehension is a major concern for many students, and I spend a lot of time reviewing questions on main idea, inference and author's tone. As a high school English teacher with a bachelor's degree in English literature and language, I can provide my students the skills and knowledge they need to improve in this area.

Students also stress over the essay, and we spend many hours writing essays together. I hold a master's degree in journalism and worked as a writer and editor for magazines and in corporate communications. I am able to draw on my work experience to help students strengthen their writing skills. We brainstorm, outline and practice with different prompts, all of which helps students overcome their anxiety and write the best essay possible.

College prep is hard work, but it can also be challenging and fun. Let me help your teenager succeed. Please email me so we can meet and start working together.
