I have a BS (Honors) in Mathematics and a M.A.T. in Secondary Mathematics Education. I have worked in the commercial sector, providing mathematical solutions to business problems. I have taught children, and trained adults, and I have a good understanding of the needs of both. I enjoy reinforcing (and if needed re-teaching) the basics of mathematics to young children, and pre-algebra through calculus to older students.

I have taught children, and trained adults, and I have a good understanding of the needs of both. I enjoy reinforcing (and if needed re-teaching) the basics of mathematics to young children, and pre-algebra through calculus to older students.
I currently teach full-time in the classroom at Dawson School, Lafayette, CO.

Following a career in Operations Research, I started teaching in 1995, and tutoring in 1996. I have taught in the UK and the U.S., 6th through 12th grade. In my teaching and tutoring, I incorporate the best teaching practices I have experienced, with emphasis on a strong foundation. I set homework, for practice and reinforcement of the ideas that we have worked on together in lessons.

I aim to break down the inhibitions, build confidence, and equip each student with the skills they need to move forward, often without the need of a tutor in the future. I provide students with printed notes and additional resources, these are not commonly provided by other tutors.

I am passionate about my subject, and my enthusiasm is evident in the way I teach. I am meticulous with my methods, and provide continued feedback to the student and their parents/guardians. Please contact me for more information - you will not be disappointed!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 in several high schools, to both advanced students, and those who have struggled with the subject. Over the years, I have developed a system to introduce Algebra to students having difficulty in mathematics, with emphasis on foundation and understanding. My goal is for each individual student to be able to easily translate those concepts into further mathematics study.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors for many years. This is one of my favorite courses to tutor, as the mathematics becomes more complicated, building upon the foundation of Algebra 1. My approach to tutoring this course is the same as all courses, focusing on the detail, ensuring the student has a solid understanding of algebraic manipulation, and operations. The course is often rushed in schools, as are previous courses, and I aim to fill in those gaps for the student that is having difficulty, increasing their grade in the subject, and certainly increasing their confidence. I pay attention to individual learning styles, and use a variety of tools and techniques in my tutoring. I instill good written habits, to minimize student errors, and to aid thought processes.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have taught Geometry in high schools in the UK & the US. In Maryland, I taught Geometry to both 10th & 11th grade classes, for 10 semesters. My students ranged from those struggling in mathematics, to gifted mathematicians. I taught many students who were strong in science, but weaker in the math components of the science curriculum, and I was able to build a strong foundation for them, and excite their interest by the use of advanced software tools & programs. I love teaching Geometry, and enjoy to tutor even more, where one has the time to focus on the individual needs of the student & to explore some of the more beautiful aspects of the subject in more detail.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have taught pre-calculus for 16 years, both in the UK and the US. I am very familiar with the syllabus of this course, and also the areas in which students generally experience difficulty. I tailor my tutoring to each individual student, whilst providing a firm foundation in the subject, leading to exam success, and a strong base for further study.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have taught general mathematics courses in the UK (6th through 10th grade), plus pure mathematics, further mathematics, discrete mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics, at A level (11th, 12th grade, including honors). I have taught math in middle and high school in the US, from elementary, through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus and calculus. I know and understand the mathematics curriculum of the ACT very well.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I love to teach introductory trigonometry! I am always surprised by the fear many students have for this subject. I take it right back to basics, with plenty of explanation and practice with basic triangle problems, before introducing any trig functions. I have yet to tutor a student that does not express surprise and delight, "wow, that is actually really easy!". For me, this is one of the joys of teaching, when the student is actually inspired by what (s)he can do. The remainder of the course generally follows without confusion or difficulty.

End of semester session

Ms. Anna helped my son since the middle of March when he was really struggling in his Alg. 2 Honors class. She guided him through many concepts and helped him master them. He improved his grade from a D-/F to a B at the end of the semester. After every session he had w/ her he always felt better and more confident going into the next exam. We will definitely use Anna the next 2 years if needed.

Excellent Tutor, Excellent Results!

Anna is an excellent teacher! She helped my daughter tremendously through the school year in mastering the material for Algebra 2 Honors. My daughter enjoyed learning with Anna very much and left each lesson with more confidence in her math abilities than when she started, and this confidence was reflected in her improved grades. We highly recommend Anna as she is a reliable and professional teacher who works for the desirable result, explains difficult concepts very clearly and effectively and is willing to modify her schedule to accommodate her student's needs. She also sends helpful notes for review after each class. Thank you so much, Anna, for your great help and devotion!
