I am an older professional with high expectations of my students. I enable students to build on existing knowledge and skills. I do not teach regurgitation of rules, rather, identification and application of rules.
I study and review subjects in tandem with students to make certain I am current and accurate. I expect my students to study and effort to muscle past identified learning obstacles. I create individualized lessons, folders, and techniques for each student to use and reference. Together we organize and prioritize educational information to optimum retention. I teach how to learn, study, and pass. I am the tutor for students who think they can’t and for students who must!

We will practice a reconnaissance-like recovery of basic skills and mastery of those skills over the enemy of abbreviated time. The student and I identify points of concern, strengths, fears, learning styles, how to study, and how to test.

Teaching the Hearing Impaired has allowed me to understand and
habilitate learning with speed and accuracy. I teach Reading, Composition, and Handwriting as elements of communicating instructions and desires.

I am a certified teacher of the Hearing Impaired, K-12. I study ASL on a continuum. I have 10 years' public school experience. I currently answer questions concerning teaching, curriculum, lesson planning, and student-driven questions/subject on the Quora forum.

My students say I am fun and self-effacing. However, I am no pushover. I will not spoon feed you, I will not have benign conversation for two hours. We will work. There will be much readin’, writin’, addin'-n- cipherin', reas'nin', and speculatin'!
I teach and support self discipline for those facing teaching styles and subjects that are not satisfying their learning aptitudes.

I taught the Hearing impaired ( elementary/middle school) for 10 years in the Houston Independent School District. I taught full curriculum within self contained classrooms. I have experience tutoring adults and adolescents with various attention challenging disorders including severe depression. My own ADHD, depression, and a sibling on the autism spectrum have contributed to my success as a tutor of English as a Second Language and Adult/Adolescent Basic Education. Literacy Advance and AmeriCorps have provided opportunities for me to tutor for the past 12yrs. Assignments have ranged from in home to onsite spanning Houston, Alief, Missouri City, and Stafford areas.
