My name is Rachel L. and I am a certified Elementary Teacher for grades 1 - 6. In 2016, I graduated from Stonehill College with a double major in Elementary Education and Psychology. In 2016, I also started tutoring students in third grade in the subject of mathematics. Simultaneously, I began working as an English as a Second Language Teacher Assistant working with students in small groups and one on one. In 2017, as my career progressed, I became a fourth grade teacher specializing in Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Development. I also obtained my license as an English as a Second Language Teacher. In 2019, I graduated with my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Teaching from Fitchburg State University. There, I was able to learn how to diversify my lessons to fit all learners.
I have currently been a fourth grade teacher for 3 years and have a passion for student growth. I have worked with multiple families since 2016, tutoring the students in math from grades 1 through 4. My teaching style is visual and I make sure that students know the "why" behind the math. It is important to me that students grow their confidence in math early on, in order to be successful in the future. I also start my lessons by using activiators. This consists of
questions that relate to the lesson, but is presented on an easier level. As we start low, it gives the students something to hold on to and the confidence to move into the harder part of the lesson.
I am a certified Elementary Teacher (1-6), English as a Second Language Teacher, Sheltered English Immersion Endorsed, and hold my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Teaching.
The most important thing to me is student success and their comfort level. I am very easy to reach and flexible with tutoring times throughout the week. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
