Hello, my name is Allison and I wanted to share a little information about myself. I was born and raised in Camp Hill, PA. I attended the Camp Hill School District. I furthered my education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA. Here I studied Mathematics in Secondary Education receiving my Bachelor's Degree in 2009. During my four years at college, I spent my free time working as a secretary for our on campus Counseling Office along with tutoring students in Mathematics and Chemistry through the Learning Enhancement Center. I also worked with students a few nights a week at a local Salvation Army - Ark of Learning Center. Here I was given the opportunity to work with students of all ages in all subject from the surrounding school districts. I was able to help students not only in completing their work for class but also providing them with a safe/quiet place to learn because many of these students came from unfortunate household environments.

After graduating college, I began my teaching career at Bermudian Springs School District in Adams County. I taught Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry to grades 9-12. A year into teaching, I began furthering my education even more by taking graduate courses at Penn State Harrisburg. Here I studied Teaching and Curriculum with a Minor in Mathematics receiving my Master's Degree in 2014. I taught for seven years (July 2009 - July 2016) before giving up my career to become a stay-at-home mom.

When teaching, I feel that my style was a lot more hands-on involvement from my students along with individual work. I liked having the students help me complete problems and then once I felt that they would succeed on their own I allowed for them to work individually. This way they could test their knowledge, skills, and understanding of the material.

So if you are struggling with math topics, don't hesitate to contact me for help because once you fall behind in math it's very hard to catch up.

Approved Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

While I mostly teach Algebra 2, I have begun to teach a few Algebra 1 classes. A lot of focus is being put on this subject due to the states implementation of the Keystone Exams a few years ago. Therefore, certain topics must be discussed to prepare students for the test.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have been teaching algebra II since 2009. It takes many topics from Algebra 1 with more rigor.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have been teaching geometry since 2013.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

While I have never taught a pre-algebra course, I am qualified to tutor in the subject matter because this is one of the first courses where students will begin to be introduced to Algebra topics. Since I teach upper levels of Algebra, I know what topics in pre-algebra that students need to grasp/understand in order to be successful in the upper levels of Algebra.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

A lot of Algebra 2 concepts are built upon in Precalculus. So if I have helped a student in Algebra 2, I am able to help them in Precalculus, as well.
SAT Math

SAT Math

SAT math includes a lot of Algebra 2 and Geometry, which are the two subjects that I teach. Many students need practice with the types of questions the SAT's ask along with techniques to solve the problems given on the SAT's. I make sure to provide both for students.

Great first session!

Allison took the time to make sure my daughter understood all of the concepts that would be included on her unit test. Allison would explain the problems and them have my daughter demonstrate understanding. She felt very prepared for the exam.

Came prepared and used the right approach

Allison made my daughter work with her instead of just explaining things. It was an effective way to teach. Allison made sure that my daughter was involved during the lesson. It made the lesson less boring.

"Great Tutor Who Goes the Extra Mile"

Allison really cares about her students. Not only did she meet with our son twice a week, but she always made herself available for extra sessions when we needed her. She returns messages promptly and was flexible. Her grasp of advanced mathematics is tremendous, and she really communicates it in an easy-to-understand way. We were lucky to find Allison!
