I am a research scientist with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a Ph.D. in Geoscience. I graduated with a GPA of 3.9 and I was awarded the College of Science nomination for the Best Teaching Assistant and Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation awards. I do research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in collaboration with the Berkeley National Laboratory.
I am available to tutor any grade, including the college level. I have been an instructor for over six years. I taught several classes as a doctoral student, including Introduction to Geology, Mineralogy, Structural Geology, Field Geologic Mapping, and Physical Geography of Earth's Environment courses at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Additionally, I successfully mentored five undergraduate students and two graduate students. I have experience teaching students of many ages through volunteer efforts, including the Boys and Girls Club, Inclusion Rocks, the Las Vegas Science Festival, the Madison Science Festival, and Skype a Scientist. I primarily teach earth science, geology, geography, and environmental science courses at the college level. I am also available to tutor other science subjects for K-12 students.
Students must have the tools to learn effectively. Since every student is unique, it is crucial to have a diverse set of teaching practices for any topic. To appeal to students with different learning habits, I develop lessons to address topics using a variety of different techniques, encourage participation, and provide a teaching environment where students feel welcome to ask questions. While teaching Geography, with over 60 students, I took great care to assess how students were doing and adjusted my teaching style accordingly. I develop lessons to approach any topic in a variety of ways to accommodate the different ways that students learn. I apply these same principles to tutoring. I will find the tools that work best for you (or your child). Please reach out if you want to learn science from an actual scientist.
