Bio

Standardized tests like the SAT and ACT have three components which must be mastered. The first is content knowledge. I am intimately familiar with every concept that appears on both tests, and can explain each of them in a variety of ways to help any student, regardless of aptitude or background.

The second is test structure. Through close analysis of practice questions, my students discover the unwritten rules that govern these tests, empowering them to confidently choose the correct...

Standardized tests like the SAT and ACT have three components which must be mastered. The first is content knowledge. I am intimately familiar with every concept that appears on both tests, and can explain each of them in a variety of ways to help any student, regardless of aptitude or background.

The second is test structure. Through close analysis of practice questions, my students discover the unwritten rules that govern these tests, empowering them to confidently choose the correct answer even in situations where that choice appears arbitrary. I also teach them to identify the time-saving shortcuts often hidden in the questions' wording or implied by the way the answer choices differ.

Finally, there is a performance component. I have access to an extensive library of practice tests created by the makers of the ACT and SAT. By working through these tests, my students learn exactly what to expect on test day, putting them in the best possible position to succeed.

I welcome students of all ability levels. Former students of mine have gone on to attend top universities such as Stanford, Amherst, Notre Dame, NYU, USC, and UT-Austin. But one of the most rewarding experiences I have had was tutoring a student who had previously taken the ACT four times. After a few lessons, she took the test a fifth time, and achieved the score she needed for a much-needed scholarship at UW-Stevens Point. Whether you are the first member of your family to attend college or the valedictorian of your class aiming for the Ivy League, I have the knowledge and experience to help you achieve your academic goals.

I am an alumnus of Northwestern University and the University of Virginia. I spent several years teaching ACT, SAT, and GRE prep for Kaplan before switching to Wyzant. My most recent test scores on the SAT and ACT (from 2017) are 1570 and 35, respectively.

I learned how to teach the HSPT, COOP, and TACHS exams while working as a test prep instructor for Kaplan. These exams offer an early look at several core principles of standardized test-taking that will prove useful for the SAT and ACT. They also differ in important ways from these later tests, most notably by including vocabulary questions and (on the COOP and TACHS exams) logic questions involving visual/spatial diagrams. As with the other exams I teach, I have developed a specific approach to each question category and a method of analyzing the answer choices that empower the student to take full advantage of the information provided.

I had Eric help me with ACT reading to primarily improve my speed. The 3 sessions I had with him helped me get to my desired level. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a patient and knowledgeable tutor who doesn’t waste any time.

Great Tutor

We had Eric tutor our older daughter for the ACT test last year. She got a great score that (along with her academic success in High School) got her accepted into several colleges with academic scholarship offers. Currently Eric is tutoring our youngest daughter for the ACT in Sept. He has been great with working around her busy schedule and helping her review key concepts and strategies necessary for doing well on the test.
