That fits me pretty well, and my approach to tutoring. Show me an interesting problem, and I will work with you to make sure you get it, best I can.

My day job is a Linux Admin, though my passion remains with Information Security (or, Cyber) - sometimes they overlap. I also have a degree in Network Administration. I loved Math, though never went farther then a semester of Trig.

I considered pursuing a degree as a programmer, but just couldn't see myself doing it as a career. I still code recreationally (primarily in Python or Bash (Linux), but occasionally JAVA) - I know pieces perl, Ruby, and have made frequently attempting to learn C (including a formal Intro to programming class in C that never got around to more then a passing mention of pointers and references). I have a lapsed CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry-level Networking Technician), after missing my CCNA my a couple of questions, and have taken classes corresponding to Microsoft's certifications for Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.

Beyond my technical qualifications - what can be said for tutoring skills? Well, when I tutored (informally) for a Linux class, one of the people I was tutoring for, remarked that I should become a teacher. Take that for what its worth.

I love an interesting, engaging puzzles -- send me yours, and we'll work through it. I'm also interested in breaking out of just a specific subset of students and topics. The only way I can become a better tutor is working with different people.

Microsoft PowerPoint,

Microsoft PowerPoint

While I personally use the Open Source LibreOffice Suite, I have developed some fancy presentations in PowerPoint. (I even tried to figure out if it was possible to embed a flash .swf component into the presentation back in Office 2000 - spoiler alert: it wasn't). I will always balk at Microsoft's decision with the fluid "ribbon' UI upgrade (people were getting lost in the menus - yeah, right - now people get lost in the ribbons), but rants aside, always remember: never read off your slide deck.

Computer Programming,

Computer Programming

I like to program. Its a fun hobby, and a great exercise in logic. While my most frequently used languages are Python and bash (a Linux shell) - I'm still exploring other languages to try to understand there benefits. I can also write BASIC, but I don't really use it -- if I need something quick, I'll just use bash; if I'm trying to do something larger, I'll use Python. My Java has gotten a little rusty from lack of use, but like riding a bike, I could probably pick it back up given some time. If they count as languages I can also work with HTML, CSS, and javascript. I have also spent some time exploring Powershell, and have a decent level of comfort with Regular Expressions.

I'm the de-facto computer guy for Neighbors and family. Windows 7, Windows 10 -- I've worked with them both. I have an unnecessary level of knowledge on the design decisions behind Windows 8 (and some on 10). While my personal computer is not Windows, I frequently provision new Windows 10 deployments at my current day job. I can teach you to save movement with a bunch of keyboard shortcuts.
HTML,

HTML

One thing I will frequently joke to people about is my ability to write in fluent HTML. While this of course is meant as a joke, HTML (4.1 - I have figure out some of the new HTML5 concepts). While other kids were copying/pasting HTML to make there MySpace Pages look cool - I was actually trying to learn HTML. HTML was the first computer language I ever learned, and I have not lost it. HTML by itself is not hard - its a fairly static language. Making it do something more dynamic - that's the tricky part - relying on things like PHP, CGI, CSS, javascript, and other technologies - some of which I know/understand better then others.
Linux,

Linux

First, I use Linux on a daily basis. Secondly, I have taken a class on Linux. Further - before I even took that class I helped tutor student's from a previous semester's Linux class. I am also currently halfway towards being CompTIA Linux+ Certified (its a 2-exam certification).

Active Directory & Infrastructure. These are the topics I took classes on relative to MCTS using Server 2008. I still have those books, and have used both the Active Directory & DNS knowledge in previous jobs. I've also, using nothing but online resources, picked up the fundamental philosophy of Powershell. I also took a course on Windows 7 which involved understanding group policy, and the essentials around the Registry. One aspect of my day job involves provisioning new Windows 10 machines.
Networking (Computer),

Networking (Computer)

I graduated with an Associates Degree on this topic (IT Network Administration). I have taken courses for the CCNA, and have an (expired) CCENT (I missed my CCNA by about 3 points by waiting too long). I still have the coursebooks and reference guide for it, along with a Net+ textbook. I have also taken courses for Net+, and MCITS Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008.
Python,

Python

Python is the most recent language I've taken to learning, and due to ease-of-use have chosen it in favour of JAVA for most of my current applications. While I started with codecademy, the scope of the tutorial was rather limiting. Luckily I had a project I was working on that required parsing HTML. Using the codecademy as a foundation, I was able to read documentation to build something much better. I now use codewars to stay sharp, and have a few books to aide learning from the ground up.

Excellent Tutor

Logan is an awesome tutor. He helped our daughter with Python and then again with Programming Logic and Technique. He filled her gaps to where she gained confidence in coding. He has a great grasp of programming. He also works well with high school children. He also stepped in a couple of times, at the last minute, to help our daughter complete assignments. I would highly recommend Logan for your child’s tutoring needs in coding.

Very knowledgeable and with outstanding teaching skills

Logan was very knowledgeable. He helped me have an idea of how to start my project. I was a little confused about how to begin and how to organize the outline. However, Logan made things much clearer for me. He clarified some things that were a little fuzzy, which led me to draft all the steps in order. In fact, I am booking a second lesson to review the final draft before I submit the assignment. Great tutor!! Highly recommend!!!
