Hello! My name is Katherine. I graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a BFA in Art History in 2017. In 2019 I received a Masters degree from American University where I specialized in Italian Renaissance Art History. I am currently writing a dissertation in Art History of 17th century Italy at Stony Brook University.
As a neurodiverse, first generation college student I found that the best way for me to learn was to teach! I worked as a tutor for my undergraduate institution in a variety of topics from philosophy to logic to Italian. So many of my fellow students were especially daunted by their art history requirements and the best times I had in undergrad were helping them. Every semester I invited fellow students over for a tutoring session before each test. Not only did we have fun, but all of my friends felt more confident-- one friend even called me the "Bill Nye of Art History!"
Making this subject that I am so passionate about accessible and interesting to others is a longstanding passion. I have taken this passion with me as worked in museum education. At the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C., I had the pleasure of educating visitors of all ages about our collection and teaching "looking" skills to school visitors. At the Walters Museum in Baltimore I had a blast teaching studio skills and art history in the Summer Camp program for ages 5-12. As an adjunct at my university I now have the opportunity to again work with college-aged students and support them through a successful semester, whether it's Art History in my period of specialty, Modern Art, Arts of Asia, or in my favorite class to teach, Art and Science.
How can I help you get the most out of this exciting topic?
