I am a mother of five children ages 28, 24, 22, and 17 year old twins. I also have 4 grandchildren. My oldest son has Spinal Bifida but was in talented and gifted and went on to get his Eagle Scout Award and join the Order of the Arrow. My younger son has a really rare disability called MECP2 Duplication. He is severely affected and has a lot of medical complications. They are the reason I have such passion for special education.
I have 22 years of classroom experience as a special education teacher. During those years I have taught or co-taught reading, English, math, science, and tutorial/resource. I have also taught severe profound students. I have taught a tutorial class as well as after-school tutorial and one on one tutorial outside of school. I love tutoring one on one and small groups because it gives me an opportunity to work with individual students to help identify specific needs and create meaningful strategies to help them be more successful in the classroom. I love that these strategies stick with them and they are able to remember and use them daily.
As an inclusion teacher, I co-taught math from many different texts including iReady, Saxon, Prentice Hall, MCT, and others. I worked as a whole group instructor, small group instructor, remediator, tutor, and worked in stations with specific goals. As a tutor, I worked with small groups and one on one for individual problems and whole lesson comprehension. Through special education, I worked with individual students to individualize their class lessons so they could understand and complete them as well as creating lessons that met their IEP goals and progress monitoring. In resource class I worked with my students with IEPs to create strategies for their individual comprehension and needs.
I love working with individual students and small groups to help each student come up with individual strategies they can use in their general education classrooms to understand and complete lessons more independently. I look forward to helping you reach
