Hello,

Welcome to my profile. I am a former high school English teacher, currently teaching in private. I have a openings for one-on-one sessions, but am also open to forming Homework Pods of two to three students.

I have been teaching and tutoring for over five years now. I can help you or your student with all ELA skills - reading comprehension, analytical and creative writing, grammar, vocabulary, or College Essays. I am also proficient in French, Math, and other subjects from Elementary through High School, College Writing, and Study Skills.

I originally come from Slovakia. I studied in Paris, FRANCE, United Kingdom (University of East Anglia) and in Massachusetts - at UMass, Amherst and women's Smith College. I hold a BA and MA in English, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with a specialization in high school English - I double-majored in Language and Literature & Education and Child Study.

My tri-lingual background enables me to understand and teach English and French grammar and composition effectively.

In Slovakia, I graduated from a demanding bilingual, Franco-Slovak high school, which helped me to still be proficient in middle and high school English and Math, as well as other subjects.

I hold teaching licenses in English 8-12 from Massachusetts and California
I scored 7 on IELTS - the English as a Second Language exam.
I hold a DELF certificate - specialty proficiency in French language awarded by the French government. 2nd out of 3 levels.

I have been teaching English, French, and Math formally and informally since my college years and that to students of all levels.
I taught:
2nd grade reading and writing to reluctant readers.
5th grade writing to low- and high-performing, private school students.
9-12 grade English also to both low- and high-performing, eager and reluctant students
College essays to high school and graduate levels
TOEFL
French basics to complete beginners
French grammar and pronunciation to intermediate students
Bible as Literature - analysis

I have been studying English as a Second Language for twenty years. I have a BA in English studies (grammar, pronunciation, literature, history, culture) and an initial MA in English Literature. I scored 7.5 on IELTS (equivalent of 102-109 in Toefl), which was the score I received already before having lived and studied in the United States, which has now been more than three years. I also have a teaching license for high school English from the state of Massachusetts. The test required for MA teachers is very similar to Toefl. Also, in my bilingual high school, I learned French practically in one year, so I understand the struggles of language speakers and know many strategies to help them with the various aspects of language learning.
French,

French

I attended a bilingual French-Slovak High school, from which I graduated with a state language certificate of the second degree - the Specialty Certificate, which is only one level below the Interpreter Level. I lived and studied in France for five years. I also worked on a few translating projects for friends and I tutored a high school American student in French.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

I just successfully worked with a student on his personal statement, which is a part of his application for a Ph.D. Also, I wrote a number of successful personal statements since I was accepted into two master's programs, two exchange programs, and also into am undergraduate program at King's College in the UK (which I ended up declining). In addition, I taught 12th grade English last year, where I taught how to write personal statements.

I am a middle school Math tutor and would love to learn more about what you are looking for. I used to be an Assistant Math teacher at a middle school and have been tutoring Math in private for a while now. I helped multiple students, including my stepson from Cs in 6th grade to As in 8th grade. I also currently have a 7th grade student who just passed a level up test and skipped a level.

I have two Master’s degrees which I obtained my study skills such as time management, graphic organizers, self-knowledge and self-assessment, or goal setting. I also studied teaching and am a licensed high school teacher and through my program I became even more familiar with study strategies. This also applies to study strategies for students with special needs.

Great teacher

Ludka helped our daughter get better at writing over the summer. She’s very patient and makes the lesson fun. She did a good job combining writing games with focused writing so that the child doesn’t get bored. At the end of each class, Ludka wrote a summary of what they went over so I can see the progress they’re making with every lesson. Ludka also tried her best to accommodate our schedule and that made the coordination much simpler. Finally, while there are many teachers that can help our daughter, we really wanted to make sure our daughter feels comfortable with the teacher she’ll spend so much time with. We couldn’t have been happier and look forward to continue working with Ludka.
