Committed to helping his students improve, he is always easy to reach by phone call, text message, or email with any questions that pop up in between lessons.

By applying the latest research in educational psychology, Kenny teaches his students the study habits they need to excel in any subject. Kenny is always working to refine his teaching methods in order to empower his students with the grit, resilience, and curiosity necessary for successful academic and professional careers.

A graduate of Stuyvesant High School and Vanderbilt University, Kenny has over 10,000 hours of test prep experience on both sides of the table, as tutor and as student. As a result, he knows which tutoring strategies work and which just create busywork.

Since Kenny began tutoring in 2014, he has worked with hundreds of students ranging from the elementary through high school level. Many of his students have gone on to attend New York's most selective public and private schools, as well as Ivy League and other highly competitive universities.

Kenny's students describe him as a very kind (but demanding), sharp, and super-responsive tutor who loves to help students reach their full potential.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Why should I get test prep tutoring?
A: Effective test preparation can result in a huge payoff: the most selective universities also award the largest financial aid packages (with need-based scholarships totaling over $220,000 over a period of 4 years!). However, admittance requires near-perfect scores on standardized tests along with a rigorous course load, high GPA, a record of leadership/extracurricular activities, an excellent college application essay, and positive teacher recommendations.

Q: Where do you meet your students?
A: I offer in-home and online tutoring.

COOP/HSPT,

COOP/HSPT

I've tutored multiple students for the HSPT, one of which gained admission to Regis High School, the #1 ranked Catholic High School in the country. I have 7+ years of tutoring experience, helping students with analogies, verbal classifications, synonyms, antonyms, sequence, comparison, computation, words in context, general/specific reading questions, vocabulary, math basics, conversions, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, geometry, logic, word problems, exponents, radicals, Algebra, statistics, probability, capitalization, usage, punctuation, spelling, and composition. All of these topics are tested on the HSPT. My HSPT curriculum includes five real HSPT exams along with additional practice material from major publishers (Barron's, Elevate Prep, Peterson's). My process begins with a diagnostic test that will identify a student's strengths and weaknesses and also provide a baseline score with percentiles. From there, I tailor a customized curriculum to focus on the areas with the most potential for improvement. The program ends with a series of full-length practice tests to help students build up their stamina.
ISEE,

ISEE

I have achieved perfect scores in all 4 multiple-choice sections of the Upper Level ISEE and I have extensive tutoring experience with the types of questions on the exam: synonyms and sentence completions (Verbal Reasoning), main idea, supporting ideas, inference, vocabulary, organization/logic, and tone/style/figurative language in a reading passage (Reading Comprehension), word problems and quantitative comparisons (Quantitative Reasoning), and math ranging from simple addition and subtraction to second-year algebra (Mathematics Achievement). The Writing section is unscored and usually an essay prompt which asks students to describe a/an: person/animal, place, object, experience/event, idea, or ambition. To practice for this section, I engage students in an "essay writing boot camp." To give you a better understanding of my mastery of the various sections: I finished the Verbal Reasoning section in under 67% of the time limit, the Quantitative Reasoning section in under 81% of the time limit, the Mathematics Achievement section in under 77% of the time limit, and the Reading Comprehension section within the time limit.

SSAT,

SSAT

I have extensive tutoring experience with the types of questions on the SSAT. The Verbal section of the SSAT is composed of two kinds of questions: synonyms and analogies. The Quantitative (math) section on the Upper Level SSAT includes problems involving arithmetic, elementary algebra, geometry, and other concepts. The Reading Comprehension section on the Upper Level SSAT tests a student's understanding of the Main Idea, Supporting Ideas, Inference, Vocabulary, Organization/Logic, and Tone/Style/Figurative Language in a reading passage. The Writing section gives an aphorism, asking students if they agree or disagree and to support their opinion with examples. I've tutored and have received tutoring for each of these questions during my preparation for the SHSAT, old SAT, and new SAT.

Kenny T. —best tutor ever!

My daughter is currently 8th grade, she had Kenny as her tutor for SHSAT. We just learned she was accepted to Stuyvesant, her first choice. This wouldn’t have been possible if Kenny didn’t tutor her, she got impressively high score all thanks to him. With every lesson she gained tremendous improvement/knowledge. Kenny was very professional, kind, patient, made my daughter study hard and at the same time helping her gain confidence much needed in her case. We will definitely use Kenny in future & would highly recommend to anyone. Valentina NYC

Expert tutoring for SHSAT

Kenny is an excellent tutor! He was able to meet with us to answer our questions about his method and strategies for tutoring SHSAT. Our daughter has made significant progress with him and is learning so much.

Outstanding math and ISEE tutor

Kenny is working with my son to help with the quantitative reasoning portion of the upper-level ISEE exam. My son has not yet learned many of the concepts that appear on the exam and they are quite difficult for him. Kenny is patient and kind and is helping him work through the problems while giving him test-taking strategies. Additionally, my son says that "Kenny is a 'math god' and is cool and is really helping him learn new stuff" - so that's always a bonus. :)

Very patient

Kenny patiently explains things as many times as needed until I understand and able to explain it back to him. He gives multiple examples for practice to make sure I am proficient. The next lessons he reviews it again to ensure I have not forgotten it.

Great Tutor for the NYC SHSAT Test

Good stuff. My kid wanted Kenny to come back again. That's enough for us. Kenny is organized and helpful. Seems to have a plan. All good. And has experience with the actual test and excelled.

Extraordinary SHSAT tutor

Kenny was an amazing tutor who was very well organized and professional He began working with our daughter 7 weeks before the SHSATs. On his first day, my daughter took an assessment test which would help guide Kenny's lessons and give us an idea of her weaknesses. He worked primarily on improving her weaknesses in addition to continuing to teach the rest of the material on the SHSAT. My daughter had weekly homework and completed a number of practice tests. The result- a very high score in the 600's. We could not have done it without Kenny and I would highly recommend him.
