I am Ms. Andrea. This is my eighth year as a certified educator in K-8 Art, Gifted and Technology. I taught at a private School in Columbia for two years, two years at Columbia Career Center, and seven years substitute teaching in Hallsville. I graduated from the University of Missouri with an Interdisciplinary three component degree in Art/Interior Architecture-Design/Theatrical Design and graduated with a Masters of Education from Columbia College. I am working towards another Masters Degree focusing on Gifted Education and Curriculum Leadership.
Tutoring in the artistic mode is much different than core subjects. I help students by breaking down the drawing/design process into basic shapes. This helps students understand that drawing can be tackled in a step by step manner taking away the anxiety of perfectionism. Art in any form is expressive and not a perfect photograph, that is for the camera. It is exciting to me when a student becomes aware of the artistic design process and has let go of the fear of creating.
Teaching art, architecture, design, and technology is a position of love. I believe that students can learn in many ways, not only by reading, writing or listening. Helping students learn through visual researching and creating, hands on building, field trips to Museums and/or hypothesizing is a much deeper learning experience. My students are very dear to me and I look forward to helping them solve problems through making mistakes, thus creating powerful images and/or objects that expresses life and themselves.
I love to go to Museums of all types, whether it is abstract, realistic, ancient or modern. Every artwork tells a story and I am always curious to find the motive of the painting/sculpture. What is your or your students' passion?

Sincerely,
Ms. Andrea
