I am a composer and academic who recently completed a PhD in Music Composition at the University of Chicago, where I went on to be a Teaching Fellow in the Humanities Division. I have over six years of experience teaching music courses to undergraduate and masters students, as well as adults and youths. For the last two years, I taught in the University of Chicago’s Humanities Core, helping 1st year students successfully transition to the intellectual and academic expectations of collegiate writing. I earned my other academic degrees from the Eastman School of Music (Master of Arts) and the University of South Carolina (Bachelor of Music).

Writing & Critical Thinking Instruction
My writing instruction focuses on two interrelated goals:
1) Improve the technical aspects of writing—mechanics, grammar, syntax, word choice, sentence and paragraph construction—in order to
2) Effectively convey clear, organized, and critical thinking

My primary content specialties are in music and the humanities, but I am equipped to help writers across a range of disciplines and subject areas make progress on these two primary goals. I am happy to offer tutoring and join writers at any stage of their process, from initial brainstorming, to drafting, editing, and final proofreading. Examples of the kinds of writing I might assist with include, but are not limited to: college/graduate school admissions essays, term papers, research proposals, or personal statements and cover letters.

Music Instruction:
I have experience teaching music theory, music composition, electronic music, orchestration, and music notation software. I can offer short- or long-term tutoring on any of the above subjects, composition portfolio review in preparation for applications to academic programs or other opportunities, or ongoing composition lessons.
