Math, Reading, Writing, SAT

Even though I have a PhD with distinction in educational psychology and mathematical statistics, my students consistently tell me that what they notice the most about me is that: 1) they love working with me and look forward to our sessions, 2) they really learn – sometimes for the first time, and 3) they look at learning and their life in a more positive way because of our work together. I feel grateful that I am able to help people improve their lives! I specialize in helping students w...

autism

Students affected by autism often have difficulty with certain academic skills such as reading comprehension and writing organized stories and essays. I have been trained in methods of helping students develop higher order thinking skills and comprehension of figurative language - two difficult areas for individuals affected by autism. I am a reading specialist who has been trained at the master’s level, and through numerous workshops, in specific techniques such as strategies for learning figurative language; identifying main ideas; making inferences, predictions and interpretations; and determining motivations, emotions and causality. These reading comprehension strategies can be applied to written work to provide a guideline for writing essays. I have been teaching reading and writing strategies to individuals affected by autism for 30 years and I can help your son or daughter comprehend more of his or her reading assignments and produce more organized, insightful written work.

Aspergers

In an educational context, individuals with Aspergers syndrome often have difficulty with communication skills, comprehension of figurative, non-literal language, reading comprehension and writing difficulties, and handwriting problems. I have been trained at the master’s level and through numerous workshops in reading and writing techniques for individuals affected by Aspergers, and I’ve taught individuals affected by Aspergers for 30 years. Using these specialized training methods, I can help your son or daughter get more meaning out of reading material and write more thoughtful, organized stories and essays.

ADD/ADHD

Individuals with ADD/ADHD are particularly prone to difficulties in executive skills such as planning, prioritizing, organization, time management and regulation of attention and emotions. I have been trained through college courses and workshops and training programs to teach tools and strategies for success to individuals affected by ADD/ADHD. I specialize in helping individuals with ADD/ADHD learn personal regulation strategies. I understand the complexities that ADD/ADHD presents to a student and can assist students in developing better study habits, better time management and better planning skills. I am a Board Certified Educational Therapist, and, as such, I specialize in educating individuals with complex needs that arise from conditions which often coexist with ADD/ADHD such as learning disabilities, autism, emotional issues and medical conditions.

Charlotte V. from Los Angeles, CA

I came to Kari in desperate need of statistics help. She asked for material before to help herself prepare to help me, which I found very helpful. She really cared and helped me prepare for my test. If I hadn't gone to Kari my grade would have been low, but with her help I felt so much more confident walking into the test.
