I'm an enthusiastic and experienced bilingual educator

I believe that my role as an educator is to assess the needs of each student, and to guide him or her in learning to ask questions, identify problems and apply analytic skills to the subject at hand. Based in France for over a decade, I have extensive experience in ESL, having taught ESL courses at University level and in elementary school as well as crafted individualized programs for business professionals and artists. I am also bilingual in French, with two graduate degrees from French universities. As a graduate student in France I have taught and organized courses in French to native French speakers. As a PhD candidate in Sociology, I am well-versed in both American and French sociological theory as well as feminist and gender studies. I hold a BA in History and French from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and a Master of Arts degree in Political and Cultural Sociology from the Université Paris 7 ( my entire program was in French). I am currently an all but dissertation PhD candidate at the École Des Hautes Études En Sciences in Paris France in Sociology and Gender Studies where my dissertation and program is conducted entirely in French and a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley since 2014. I rely heavily on inquiry based learning techniques in my teaching. Such models cultivate the intellectual curiosity and reflexivity necessary to think critically about the world. From my experience, most students are more motivated to build their knowledge base when they are asked to independently determine what they need to learn in order to solve a problem or answer a question.
