JOYCE

Dynamic English Teacher with Performing Arts background.

I establish an immediate rapport with the student aided by my Arts background. I assess the student's strengths and build on abilities that already exist. I was a professional actor before I began teaching drama for fifteen years at Fairfax High School. Among the 20 plays I produced and directed were "The Miracle Worker," A Raisin in the Sun," and "A Chorus Line. Before receiving my Master's Degree from UCLA, I was was a teaching assistant in the musical theater department. I tutored Ms. Lynda Carter on one of her television movies, as well as appearing in three of them.

I am very impressed with my session! It was well organized and explained simple enough for me to understand. Also, Joyce gave me the confidence boost I needed. From my experience with teachers/tutors, it makes a big difference when the instructor believes in me and I can truly say that Joyce instilled in me a genuine belief. She was very patient and attentive. She listened to my needs and concerns and overall went above and beyond to help me reach my personal learning goals. She also helped fine-tune my voice with voice projection techniques which is a component for my oral exam coming up. she helped give me advice on how to combat the common jitters most students have before taking a test. Lastly, what I appreciate the most is that she helped enact a simple yet realistic mock exam environment, to help me practice for the real deal. Now I am more excited than ever to take this exam and I owe it to her. Thank you Joyce!!
