ADD/ADHD

I have taught students with varying disabilities, including AD/HD for many years. As a public school teacher, of course, many of my students were diagnosed with AD/HD, and did well in my English classes. For the last 6 years in my tutoring role, I have provided assistance to many students with this disability. I find that my students with AD/HD respond well to me and perform well. During my 5 years with UCP I was able to help many young people graduate and find careers in spite of AD/HD and any other disabilities.

Aspergers

Aspergers, as is exists on the autism scale, is one of the disabilities I have encountered most frequently in my teaching experience. This experience includes regular public school classroom teaching plus five years' experience working for United Cerebral Palsy. During this time, I trained students with Aspergers for careers in the private sector and coached them with their academic subjects. Almost all my students with Aspergers syndrome completed their high school programs. In addition, I taught social skills to these kids in a summer camp environment that was sponsored by the Center for Independent Living in Palm Beach County. I believe that students with Aspergers can achieve personal and academic success like any other student.

My background, in addition to teaching in public schools in Broward County until retirement, includes working for five years following that for United Cerebral Palsy. During this time, I trained students with varying degrees of autism for careers in the private sector and coached them with their academic subjects. All my autistic students who participated in this program completed high school. In addition, I taught social skills in a summer camp sponsored by the Center for Independent Living in Palm Beach County. This program served students with autism as well.

We just got our daughter’s test scores back for her 7th grade Stanford Achievement Test. This is in place of the FCAT’s most schools use. Although we were unable to find any study materials for this “less used” test, Peg taught her the basics for a standardized exam along with some very beneficial “testing tools” which will help her throughout her school career. We are excited to report that Sarah, overall, did 58% better. In Language: 25%...Math: 40%...and Reading: over 100% improvement from her 6th grade SAT scores. THANKS PEG! We are very proud and happy to be able to start looking at the high schools of our choice knowing that she NOW exceeds their academic requirements. Peg was very flexible and very pleasant to deal with.

For the first time I feel so happy that I was able to help my son with a tutor. Peg is a great tutor. My son founded immediate connection with her. He feels very comfortable working with her, and for the first time I see my son happy and motivated after the lesson. I think that you are doing wonderful job just keep doing it.

Peg only worked with my son for 4 weeks and within that time frame she was able to help him to the point where he increased his ACT test score 4 points!. Now he is able to get in the school of his choice. Thank you so much for your patience and flexibility.
