If I could give one piece of advice I've learned throughout my tutoring experience it would be to start early! Don't wait until it's too late to raise your grades I began working as a peer tutor in August 2014 with my previous academic institution's Trio program. Through this program I gained national certification as a tutor. Subjects I tutored include: Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, College Writing, Anatomy and Physiology, Intro to Chemistry, General Chemistry, General Biology, etc...
