Got Math?

Hello to all my new neighbors in Cedar Rapids! My wife, 3 kids, and I recently moved to Marion from the Portland, Oregon area because she was offered a great job at a local hospital. We couldn't wait to get back to our home state after just a year away. I have tutored over 1000 hours in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra to College level Statistics and Calculus. I have also helped many students prepare for SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT and ASVAB tests. I have a BS in Mathematics from Grand View in Des...

My daughter was able to walk into her first and second day of class ahead of the game and feeling very confident. She is excited about her next tutor session!

Jackie C. from West Des Moines, IA

Richard likes to focus on the concepts of each lesson to make sure I actually understand them. This helps me apply the concepts to several different types of problems. He is very patient and makes math fun to learn!

Kristin S. from Ankeny, IA

Richard is very knowledgeable and a great teaching tutor. He is teaching my daughter Algebra 2 and really cares that she understands the basics and that she understands without using a calculator. Highly recommend!

Kelly E. from Urbandale, IA

Our daughter was getting a C- in Algebra 1 and struggling with many of the concepts. We started working with Richard 6-7 weeks ago and our daughter is now achieving a B in Algebra. Her turn around in math has been amazing, and I give full credit to Richard.

Tom G. from Des Moines, IA

My son, a seventh grader, has had over ten sessions with Mr. C. These have been terrific sessions, and my son is better at math. Proof of this is his first A this year on a test taken this past week. Mr. C. seems to get along great with kids, communicates the ideas well, he's easy to get a hold of, and has been quite flexible with scheduling around all our other activities. My son will never be a math major, and he struggles with concepts that seem obvious to most, but Mr. C., a man who could easily tutor high level college students, was always patient and understanding.

Mohan A. from Johnston, IA

We are very happy with his tutoring skills for my daughter for her ACT exam, plan to use him for my son too.

Keri W. from Johnston, IA

Richard has been a huge asset in helping my son get back into math and understanding it. He is great with teenagers and was worth every penny. My son actually enjoyed going and said that Richard was one of his favorite people he ever met. Besides being a great person, he doesn't just help them with their homework, he really teaches them and helps them push themselves to do better and learn the material.

Margaret S. from Des Moines, IA

My daughter was going through the motions in Algebra II, functioning on a surface level, and it was catching up with her. Her first meeting with Richard was amazing! They set the calculator aside and he helped her to really comprehend what she was doing so she could figure out the problems on her own -- she showed me in the car immediately how she could figure out her algorithms. And, she actually had fun (Richard is "really funny") and is anxious to go to tutoring again. It doesn't get better than that! I give Richard my highest recommendation. 4/15/13 I would add now, several weeks later, that my daughter has really improved in math with Richard's help. She is getting more confident and doing great on her school work and tests. So, so glad we found him! 4/22/13 A 100% on her last exam -- the only one in her class. A remarkable improvement. Thank you, Richard!

Julie I. from Clive, IA

Knows exactly what the issues seem to be, and is good about continuing to reiterate them each time! Appreciate his help!

Austin M. from Happy Valley, OR

Easy to understand his teaching, helped me figure ways to solve difficult problems, knows a lot about what he teaches, helps me in many ways and is very straight forward when a problem is wrong and worries more about me getting the lessons done right more then anything else.

Sara O. from Portland, OR

Patient and helped me work out the problems without dictating me the answers. Showed me how to do them step by step and I feel much more prepared for my test

Lisa K. from Tualatin, OR

First time we have ever had a tutor for our son. I knew it was a good match when my son said, "I understood him better than my math teacher". He is a happy kid.

Jennifer H. from Battle Ground, WA

Richard maintains a positive approach in handling customer problems. He has impressed me with his excellent service. He ensures that we are completely satisfied with his tutoring abilities and that they are meeting the needs of my son.

Jeff T. from Portland, OR

Richard explained a problem then had Mac work through it without a calculator. This method gave her renewed understanding & confidence. The casual public setting was not a distraction - Richard is very knowledgeable & established a nice rapport with our daughter! Looking forward to more lessons.

Joshua H. from Portland, OR

Easily rescheduled a missed appointment, then was late due to traffic to the second - laid back and flexible while concurently effective

Lori D. from Lake Oswego, OR

Richard has been working with my 9th grade son on algebra for about a month now. Richard is always on time, knowledgeable about the subject, and supportive and encouraging. I have already seen my son making progress in this short time.

Regina H. from West Linn, OR

Rich is not only a great guy but a great tutor! He has helped bring my daughter's grade up a full grade within just a very short amount of time. I highly recommend Rich!
