There is a Key for Every Locked Door

I have nearly 20 years of teaching experience. In that time I have had the pleasure to teach many types of students with varying learning challenges. My current focus is mainly on students on the autism spectrum with or without communication disorders. I also help students with ADD/ADHD and dyslexia. Personally, I fall into the category of high-functioning autism and have found ways to make the best use of a skill set that is different from others. This also gives me a unique insight into ...

Aspergers

While not a specialist in Asperger Syndrome, I have had experience teaching young adults with Aspberger type symptoms. It is difficult for an Aspberger child to learn well in a large classroom, or even an intimidating school environment, so I would prefer to come to the home where the child is more comfortable and feels safe. I have read several books on Asperger Syndrome, and even have close personal friends with Asperger's. This gives me a unique perspective in addressing the needs of the Asperger individual's learning styles. I believe in the theory of multiple intelligence types and will attempt to bring out your child's strengths to accomplish our learning goals.

ADD/ADHD

I have been helping students with ADD/ADHD for over five years. My methods include skills learned in the field as well as from technical manuals on ADD/ADHD. These manuals include books such as "Driven to Distraction (Revised)," "Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder," by Hallowell and Ratey as well as "The Energetic Brain: Understanding and Managing ADHD" by Reynolds et al. Understanding how ADD/ADHD differs from regular brain function allows me to provide solutions to parents as well as to adults struggling with these disorders. I also have many unique teaching strategies to help the student with ADD/ADHD.

Mary G. from Florence, KY

My son lacks interest in school and we are battling with trying to get him to be interested and do the work. Troy is personable and punctual. We have enjoyed working with him. We will call upon him again, should our son be willing to attend (meetings with Troy have helped) or I may be calling on him to assist with math when starting my MBA in the fall. Thank you.

Olivra L. from Cincinnati, OH

My grandson called me to say thanks for the tutor, and this is because of Troy. At first my grandson was upset with me for pushing him to get help. Now he comes home after a test feeling pleased with his work. Thanks, Troy.

Ericka R. from Burlington, KY

My son had am amazing experience with our tutor Troy. My son was struggling with chemistry because of the lack of visual learning in his classroom. Troy came to our house and was able to break down chemistry in a way that he had never seen before. He also left our son with some inspiring words that motivated him to do better. Now my son has a deep interest in chemistry and is feeling confident going into chemistry class. Thanks Troy!
