My background includes major areas of focus relevant to the autistic child. Specifically, these include a year of study at the Froeble Institute of the University of London of the developmental psychology of Jean Piaget, the power of language in the intellectual development of the child (Luria and Vygotsky), and reading disabilities. In addition I was Director of a school which focused on informal methods for helping children learn. I believe that the strategy of choice for every child is to work through their interests and abilities when constructing a program for them. With respect to tutoring the autistic child, an initial meeting must be held - at no charge - before determining whether s/he can be helped to achieve traditional curriculum goals and demands. It may be that a different environment is needed before the child can profit from such an intervention.
