Science and Math for the Non-Traditional Student

I offer science and math teaching for under-challenged, over-challenged, home schooled, twice-exceptional, interrupted, and other non-traditional learners. I have ten years of experience as a teacher, and have been a dedicated private tutor since 2013. I've worked with many wonderful students who are constantly teaching me that there's a different "best teaching strategy" for every learner. The modern classroom doesn't serve the needs of all students. Too many students believe that they ar...

My son has been working with Kate for a few weeks, and is staring to feel confident in math. Working with Kate makes a difference.

Dana O. from Lexington, MA

We are extremely delighted with Kate C. She initially tutored my older son for the ACT in math and science and also the SAT Subject II Math Level II tests. He increased his ACT scores by 2-5 points (ACT Science/33 and Math/34) and scored a 770 on the SAT Subject II Math Level II. She quickly evaluated how he learns, identified key areas of strength and weakness and tailored the sessions to them, and also provided sorely needed encouragement and positive feedback after a difficult academic year. She now tutors him in AP Physics AB, and his test and quiz scores have gone from the B to A- range to B+ to A+! Due to her teaching abilities, we asked her to work as well with our younger son, who is a freshman in high school, taking Honors Algebra/Geometry. Even though his personality and learning style are very different from his older brother's, she is able to work with him equally well, and he looks forward to his sessions. He says that she explains the concepts really well because she explains one concept from multiple angles. She has also identified areas of algebra that were taught in 7th and 8th grade but not mastered, and yet are essential building blocks for his high school course. With this re-teaching, he feels so much more confident and solid in his mathematical concepts. He believes that without her tutoring, he would be obtaining B's in tests/quizzes as opposed to his current A- average. Thank you so much!
