In 11 years of teaching, I have had a wealth of experience with ADD and ADHD students. I was diagnosed with the disorder when I was younger in middle school. My son also has the disorder along with Autism. Most of my knowledge has been from working with the special education departments of previous schools to meet the needs of my inclusion class students. In these classes nearly half of my students were ADD or ADHD and received 504 accommodations. I work with students through redirection and focusing techniques. It is imperative to have an understanding of how the disorder effects the brain and different treatments that can help control or subdue the symptoms.

It was about Christmas break last year that my daughter's 11th grade Advance Placement (AP) Chemistry had gotten beyond my ability to help. Fortunately we found Joanne and she was able to provide our daughter with whatever level of help she needed. Joanne comes to our house and provides tutoring in the student's environment - which helped to improve the learning process for us. There were many times when Joanne re-taught concepts that my daughter's High School teacher had made overly complex. Joanne has worked hard during her career to learn ways to teach concepts so that the student has an easier time understanding the subject. Once Joanne simplified the concept and spent one-on-one time working through several problems - my daughter's frustration level lowered, she had a much better grasp of the subject and she was able to build upon it. A fantastic outcome for us. Joanne is very dependable, is concerned about the students grasp of information, she tries extra hard to make certain that the concept is learned (not memorized), is always prompt and on-time and she is very dedicated to the service that she provides. It is also important to mention that Joanne is very adept in most all of the sciences - not just chemistry. My wife and I highly recommend her and plan to use her again this coming school if (actually when) the need arises.
