Success in school builds confidence and self-esteem. I work through positive re-enforcement, with no negative feedback. I want each student to feel valuable and capable of learning. Whether your child wants to be a nurse, fireman, doctor, dog trainer, truck driver, I want to show how learning is important to his or her future. I have brought students from failing to honor role, and I would be glad to help your child. My Bachelor's degree was earned at Florida International University, one of...

ADD/ADHD

During the past three years tutoring with various school districts in Southwestern Ohio, I have had the opportunity to work with multiple students with ADD and ADHD. Like many doctors who have written the books on this subject, I too suffer with ADHD. I understand the frustration of the students and the parents because I have lived it myself. In the general classroom, I am able to work with ADD & ADHD students without losing my patience. I can manage the classroom without calling these kids out because I keep them interested and engaged. It is true that these students are typically very smart! Boredom is their worst enemy and results in talking and issues sometimes perceived as problems or disruptive. I have studied ADD/ADHD since 1980 and I love these kids!

For the last several years, I have worked with students on the spectrum. Never have I had two students alike. Although there are identifiable similarities which place a person on the spectrum, every person is completely individual. Working with autistic students is exceedingly rewarding. It takes great patience, stern conviction, and encouragement/rewards. I have trained in the use of strategies for non-verbal students, those who are just learning basic skills, all the way up the spectrum to working with Aspergers. My objective is to make the connection with the student - a connection of trust and attention so that learning can occur. Then we can accomplish goals. I work with the IEP from school and with a psychologist that I consult with for strategies. Each step is a milestone for Autistic persons. I will use all my resources to advance your child and help them learn acceptable standards. Our first meeting is an assessment - you can decide whether you believe I can handle the job at hand, and I will give you my plan for teaching your child.

Wendie has been patient with us if we needed to cancel at the last minute. She knew when my daughter needed to work ahead and adjusted the schedule appropriately. Would definitely recommend this tutor to anyone.

Kieffer T. from Miamisburg, OH

My step-daughter is from Vietnam (very limited English in the beginning) and enrolled in a school that students were 2 years ahead of the average school. It was a very tough situation for myself and my family trying to help keep her in pace with the others. My sister found Wendie and I have been extremely pleased with her progress in school work. I'm sure it has been helped by her teachers, fellow students and of course herself but I'm certain the help twice a week from Wendie has been the greatest factor in her development. She is dedicated and really knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects. I could not recommend a better tutor if you need help. 5 Stars and a big "Thank You" to Wendie.

Wendi is very patient with my son. She ensures he is given breaks when he gets antsy. We can see improvements when we work with him at home. She is giving him what he needs to get a great start in the first grade.

My 9 year old and Family had the pleasure of working with Wendie during my daughter's 3rd grade year. Wendie was a welcome change and sign of encouragement for my daughter with her academics following a rough start to the school year and a recent diagnosis of ADHD; subsequently requiring the addition of medications to her regimen. Wendie is exceptionally receptive and experienced with special needs and gifted with providing children supportive encouragement and motivation that "they can do it," "and they have the ability," with some practice and confidence! My child immediately took to this approach and opened up easily and quickly to Wendie's personality and teaching style. She is patient, understanding, innovative, and able to adjust according to the student's level and meet them "in the middle." I find that to be her strongest attribute. My daughter's reading and math levels were well below the Ohio Academic Achievement scores required for 3rd grade at the beginning of the year. I am pleased to say that after Spring testing, my daughter successfully exceeded the OAA state requirements scoring at the "advanced" level above the average of her peers this Spring. She is now a very confident and highly encouraged 4th Grader no short of Wendie's skill and dedication to her success!

Wendie strayed from her normal lessons with my daughter to help her prepare for a big upcoming math test. It was very nice to have the flexibility to do that. She really helped my daughter's confidence.

Wendie has been tutoring my 2 kids (10 and 14) for several months now. Both feel they are benefiting greatly from her help. They have been doing well on their math tests this year. Wendie is very flexible, and came on an unscheduled day to help my son prep for a math text the next day. She is truly interested in how the kids are doing and excited for them when they do well.

My granddaughter was failing the third grade last year when I searched and found Wendie M to tutor her. My granddaughter had transferred back into public school after two years at another school. It is evident the teachers there were not competent enough to acknowledge she had a reading comprehension problem. Without reading comprehension ever subject is confusing and impossible to achieve. Instead they passed her from first to second and to third grade even though she was lost and really behind in all subjects. Thankfully the teachers at her new school saw there was a problem and was trying to help her catch up but I felt an intervention and tutor was needed. Wendie came and started working with her, giving her confidence and explaining to her the things she should have been taught in the first and second grades. With Wendie's guidance my granddaughter passed the third grade competency tests and was able to be promoted to the fourth grade. She is still lagging in her math and reading but Wendie is still working with her and hopefully with her steady encouragement and tutoring my granddaughter will be able to get on track and have a good year. Wendie is very patient and works hard to keep her students on task. She doesn't give up and will not give up on the student. If one method doesn't work she finds another way to reach the student. My granddaughter loves her and is very glad to have her tutoring her weekly. It is comforting to see my granddaughter's confidence grow and her interest in learning growing.

Armando P. from Dayton, OH

My grandson needed tutoring to obtain the best score possible on the ASVAB. The major challenge was his lack of a formal high school education. This was a major hurdle to overcome as it involved relearning academic subjects in the proper way. Wendy understood the challenge and after the first meeting was able to assess his strengths and weaknesses. In just a few lessons, he has made remarkable improvements in math, geometry, vocabulary and comprehension and, above all, has acquired the confidence to take the test and the belief that he can score in an above average range. Wendy’s reports on his lessons are precise and informative not only about the course of study, but also on the level of progress and plans on how to tackle the challenges in her upcoming lessons. Thank you, Wendy. We are very happy with the results.

Bridget P. from New Carlisle, OH
