autism

I have a lot of experience working with children/students with the diagnosis of autism. I have worked with students since birth-3 program, developmental preschool, preschool, kindergarten, special education, elementary school, middle school and high school. I have worked with students who were non verbal and those with communication and speaking and anything and everything in between. I have spent the last 15 years of my life exploring, researching, teaching future special education teachers about autism, working at Autism Society of America conferences, and much much more. My son was dianosed with severe/moderate autism at the age of 2 1/2. He was unable to speak until age 8, but he is now 15 and doing WONDERFUL. I would love to help parents and students with autism in any capacity you need. This is my love and dream to help in anyway I can!

Aspergers

I am a certificated special education teacher and have been involved in the autism community for years since my own son was diagnosed with classic kanner autism at age 2 1/2. I have worked with students with Aspergers syndrome within the classroom as well as knowing many outside of the classroom. It is like working with extremely gifted children who have some social deficits and a few areas in academia that need a little work on such as organizational and study skills and much more. I would love to tutor students with Aspergers syndrome because I would love to take their special interests and through them teach the students the areas they need to learn such as math, science, social studies, English, etc. These students are amazing learners. (I have to mention my husband is diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, and he is a computer programmer.)

ADD/ADHD

I have a BA in Education from central Washington University. I have a double major and one of them is Special Education. I have taught many students with the diagnosis of ADHD/ADD. They are some of the most intelligent students that I have taught. They have so much to offer the classroom, but often times the classroom in a public school is just not set up for a child with this diagnosis. He or she can be easily distracted and off task and end up lost in the whole scheme of things. It definitely isn't the child that is the issue...these kids can learn and learn WELL! They just need to have a quiet area where they can focus and also topics that they love and are interested in that are presented to them in ways that are exciting for them to delve into. I would love to help tutor a child with this diagnosis. I have tons of great ideas and materials that can help teach vital educational concepts to these children that will involve them, excite them, and inspire them to learn more. Also teaching these kiddos study skills and organizational skills will help them.
