Math and Physics Specialist

I have a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. This education included significant studies in the field of mathematics. In addition I have approximately 40 years work experience in the aerospace field, most of it designing hardware requiring significant math. I am currently retired but have always enjoyed working with younger engineers and have often acted as their mentors. This may have been as an official position, but usually just happened by itself s...

Mathematica

I purchased my first Mathematica license in 1989 and have been using Mathematica ever since. As an engineer it was invaluable for doing modeling and simulations. I found it especially valuable for numerical integration problems pertaining to the propagation of light. Mathematica has also been very useful when tutoring students in calculus and differential equations.

Update: It has been a pleasure working with Lee. He is by far the most gifted instructor/tutor for college preparation and High School Math that we encountered during the past two years. If you are considering someone to assist your children, then Lee is the best asset in this area. Hire him as soon as you can!!! Lee has been and continues to be an outstanding tutor for our children. Thorough and detail-oriented, he has been able to provide context and depth of understanding of the subject which was lacking in the instruction given by the local school system. A very valuable asset.

Was unable to help my daughter with functionals analytical geometry. He called it nasty math and struggled with it. I decided to find another tutor who has experience with this kind of math.

We have been using Lee as a tutor for our daughter for about a year and he has done a fantastic job. He is the perfect tutor as he is patient and takes the time to explain things clearly. Math is not a subject our daughter enjoys as it has always been a struggle for her. Last November, she was having a hard time with Algebra II and had failed her most recent exam and seemed ready to give up. We looked for a tutor and are very thankful to have found Lee. He was able to explain the concepts in terms she was able to comprehend and she finished the year with a B. This year she is taking pre-calculus and Lee once again is able to clearly explain the concepts to her if she is confused at school. He has always been very flexible and willing to work with her as long as it takes. She really enjoys working with Lee and he has made this a subject that she not only enjoys but, more importantly, understands.

Tried a few sessions. Was a no-show for one, and had a negative attitude during the last session, even providing negative (unconstructive) feedback in front of my son. As you can imagine, this did not help much with building confidence. Fortunately, found another tutor via WyzAnt who is working out great. Hopefully, was just a bad day. Many others apparently had positive experiences, but felt obligated to share mine. (Subject: pre algebra, some exposure to algebra 1) Good luck!

Lee is a great tutor who gets results. My son has greatly improved his performance, test scores and most importantly his confidence following sessions with Lee.

Veronica J. from Bristow, VA

My family is pleased with your work with our daughter. We really appreciate your honest feedback and notes after each session. Thank You!

Julie F. from Haymarket, VA

Lee has been very helpful. He and my daughter work through her calculus problems together. While they have not been working together long, I already see a change. For one thing her stress during the week regarding calculus seems diminished. She was also proud of an 'A' she got on an AP practice test given by her teacher. In class the students are given the lessons but they don't have much time to work on problems and practice. When they come home and start trying to work on problems and get wrong answers they get frustrated because they cannot figure out what is wrong and there is no one to help. I think she is more relaxed because she knows she has someone who can help her. Her and Lee's sessions allow her to practice her calculus skills successfully without getting so frustrated.

Mr. B. has been an excellent tutor for my son in calculus. My son's understanding of the subject matter has improved significantly under Leroy's instruction, and his improvement in test/quiz/homework scores shows it. We are very pleased. Mr. B is highly flexible in scheduling and he has a great demeanor in working with students. I would recommend him highly.

Mark R. from Bristow, VA

Lee was able to sit down with my son and assess his strengths and weaknesses to provide him with focus areas to continue to develop.

Heather S. from Gainesville, VA

He helped our daughter through summer work and understanding of concepts not grasped from last year's analytic functions/trig in order to prepare for upcoming calculus in her senior year.

LaVarne P. from Haymarket, VA

First lesson. Will provide reviews after next sessions. Will start from the basics of Algebra II and build from a stronger foundation and basics.

Liz S. from Gainesville, VA

Lee was helpful in explaining some of the corrections to my test so that I can prepare for my retake.
