Hi, my name is Philip. I am a professional tutor because I love helping students of all ages gain knowledge and skill in subjects of interest to them. But I am more than just a tutor. I am also an independent scholar with three published books, along with four websites that present my books. And I have a Seattle meetup group, where I have been presenting ideas and leading discussions for more than five years. I have a knack for making complex ideas seem intuitive and easy to understand thro...

About ten years ago, my son Tom dropped out of high school due to a learning disability, but in the ensuing years, he taught himself how to assemble and program computers. Now Tom lives and breathes computers. I recently asked Philip to tutor Tom so that Tom could get a GED and go on to tech school to prepare himself for a career in computer technology. At first it looked like my plan wouldn't work because Tom wasn't used to living a normal diurnal schedule. But Philip was able to establish rapport with Tom, and before long Tom was determined to get a GED and was keeping a diurnal schedule. Except for the math test, Tom completed the other three GED tests in reasonable time. But it became apparent to Philip that Tom has a cognitive deficit in processing math formulas. Tom can do math with numbers; he does it all the time in his head. But his mind doesn't readily process math formulas having letters. Philip located some online resources for Tom to use in practicing math and to use in better understanding his cognitive deficit, and Tom continues to practice math with the goal of passing the GED math test. Philip also continues to contact Tom, from time to time, to see how he's doing. My wife and I greatly appreciate what Philip was able to do for Tom. Philip took a personal interest in Tom, and truly cared about how well he was doing. It was always uplifting to see Philip when he came to tutor Tom, and it is reassuring to know that we can call on Philip in the future if we need to. In the meantime, we anticipate the day when Tom will overcome his cognitive deficit sufficiently to pass the GED math test.

Thank you Philip for tutoring me. In the few days that I did work with you, I was able to up my quiz score to a perfect score. I learned to enjoy history but also have the correct mindset when approaching it. For those looking for a history teacher, Philip is your guy!

Kathy E. from Arlington, WA

Very patient with my granddaughter in helping her understand math concepts. He is able to help with all aspects of her math class.

Anita W. from Kenmore, WA

Philip was able to help me understand the concepts in terms I could easily understand. He would go out of his way to follow up in emails after the session was over.

Adam J. from Philadelphia, PA

Philip is bringing me up to speed with computer science foundations, focusing mostly on algorithms. I appreciate that Philip can reframe the highly abstract concepts in my texts into more understandable terms. He is also helping me to formulate a plan for addressing all areas of my course - including computer science concepts, calculus and programming in C.

Philip P. from Winchester, IN

Philip's masterful writing and proof reading allows me improve upon my approach and thoughtfulness as I write my papers. He helps me refine my thoughts on subject matter.

Natalie B. from Houston, TX

He is really good at correcting a paper making it into a more professional paper. Very knowledgeable on govt. issues too.

Vishnu Priya A. from San Jose, CA

I had hired Philip to help my son. He was very thorough in first assessing the need. He then prepared for the lessons so that they matched our needs. Then he helped my son exactly with his requirements. I have been hiring tutors for several years now. I would say he is the best. He has a lot of patience and knowledge in the field. I plan to hire him as we go along. I am very glad I found him.

I am a college student in the U.S., majoring in science and engineering, but English is my second language, and I’m not good at expressing myself in written English. Fortunately, I discovered Philip! Philip is able to figure out what I’m trying to say, even in the technical material, and this is sometimes quite difficult. Then he helps me express my thoughts in the best possible written English. I can recognize the quality of Philip's work, and other students agree with my judgment, including those who grew up in the U.S. and are top-performing students.

I have so much to thank Philip for. Not only is he very knowledgeable in computer science, he has a special way to communicate with his student, which makes his lessons 100 percent successful. My son (good student, strong in math, going to a decent college) had a very difficult time with Computer Science in his senior year. He was lost in class for his peers were already far advanced and his teacher conducted class for the advanced students. He vowed he would never study computer science. That's when I looked up WyzAnt and came across Phillip, whom I thought might could help my son. What interested me about Phillip (other than the sound depth of knowledge in various fields he seems to have) is that he is a homeschooling father. I noticed from my experiences with some homeschooling parents that they usually have great communication skills to encourage their children to keep interested in studying. I needed somebody who could motivate my stubborn and independent son to actually get interested in studying Computer Science with the help of a tutor. I communicated with Phillip via email, explained my situation, and then Phillip was generous and kind to give me information on what my son could do (suggestion of a book and of how he could study it on his own). It was really a very nice way of getting started. My son liked the book and started reading the book. A few weeks later, Phillip contacted me to have an update and I asked him to check on my son so that he can have more momentum in his self-study. After the first lesson, I could see my son had an entirely new perspective on Computer Science. Thanks to Phillip, he got to see the subject in a broader terms and got interested in doing lessons with Phillip. Phillip has been working with my son a few weeks now and they are almost done with a book! Much more importantly, my son is now motivated to study the subject further in college. I am immensely thankful to Phillip for his unique way of teaching based upon his very special perceptiveness and sensitivity, which makes his every single lesson such a valuable time of communication and of simultaneously building knowledge and self-confidence.. Phillip is not 'any' tutor who teaches well. He is truly a GREAT mentor who can lead his student to success in many different kinds and levels.

Philip is very patient to tutor me for programming even though i wasn't clear of what i do not understand so he is very good for students of every level and he is very knowledgeable in computer programming, i highly recommend him to other students.

Josh C. from Knoxville, TN

Philip worked me through my C++ review for my test in an extremely patient manner. He calmly explained to me the material, and unlike most instructors I've had, he did not follow the standard "this is the way it is" formula. Instead he walked me through the thought process and proofs for each expression, challenging me to think critically as to the "why we do what we do" instead if just the "how to do it". First impressions are fantastic, and I look forward to continuing my tutelage with him.

Chris M. from New Paltz, NY

I contacted Philip on behalf of my son, a third year computer science major. He was concerned about an upcoming mid-term exam. I contacted Philip and that same day and the next day he made time for my son and spent a few hours helping him with the areas he had problems with. In that short time my son went from being worried to being confident, and scored a B+ on the exam.

Gigi G. from Monroe Township, NJ

Philip is a caring and extremely knowledgeable tutor. I am taking an engineering computer science second semester class in Java. Topics include stacks, recursions, queues, lists, codefrags and more. I have had 2 lessons so far with Philip and have understood much of the material I was struggling with. He takes time to prepare and then some, striving to find the most efficient way to approach the problem at hand. I highly recommend Philip and will continue lessons for this class.

Alia A. from Minneapolis, MN

Philip is very knowledgable in the field of Computer Science and is very patient when teaching it to to someone. He also understands your needs and takes the time to ensure that you understand the material.

Philip was more than helpful with what I was trying to accomplish. He provided information on how to do certain tasks and where to look for additional information. He was patient with me as I learned how to complete tasks and instructed good ways to write code. He was helpful in every aspect of what needed to be accomplished and look forward to working with him again.

Mamta A. from Mount Laurel, NJ

Philip was able to teach my son in time for the test. He studied the topics and was able to provide and guidance and tips and tricks to finish his homework.

Austin G. from Orlando, FL

He walked me through the problems that I was having and took me step by step with having me do the answering instead of him just walking through the problem as I watched. Really enjoyed the lesson.

Dwight D. from Norfolk, VA

Philip has assisted my son with several math and computer science classes. He is an excellent tutor, very knowledgeable, provides quality instructions, patient individual and extremely flexible in scheduling to accommodate students. As a student athlete, my son grades improved significantly.
