Hello and welcome! I am the owner of a College Admissions Test Preparation company that I founded in 1996. Over the past 20 years, I have tutored and taught more than 850 students - both Online and In Person - for the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, and LSAT exams. I am a Certified Teacher, with a solid background in education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1978 from the University of Texas, with a B.S. in both Chemistry (42 hours) and English (44 hours), and with 36 hours in Mathematics (including f...

I have been an attorney for 32 years. I earned a scholarship to law school for my LSAT score.

ISEE

The ISEE is the Independent Schools Entrance Examination. As a student's performance on the ISEE will partially determine whether they are admitted to a particular school or not, it is crucial to make sure your student will perform well on this test. I have a Masters in Education and an ABD PhD in Education. In my academic programs, I received training in administering and interpreting standardized tests. Moreover, I have taught and prepared many students for the ISEE. All of my students have increased their scores from their score on the first of the ISEE practice tests we use. I believe in teaching more than just "tips and tricks" for these exams, so I also teach students the substantive subject matter of the exams, such as mathematics, reading, grammar and/or writing. ISEE tutoring helps level the playing field. Students are more confident taking the ISEE, after having seen for themselves, through tutoring practice, what they are capable of achieving on the exam.

Aspergers

I have a Masters in Special Education and an ABD PhD in Special Education. I very much enjoy helping students with Aspergers, and have tutored many such students in the lower grades through the college years. Invariably, these students are quite intelligent - but they learn in different ways from the how most other students learn. Many students with Aspergers have special abilities and/or talents. They often excel remarkably in these areas and sometimes we can find ways to emphasize their talents in these special areas through contests or projects. This enables their teachers and their peers to realize and appreciate their gifts. I work with Aspergers students on their academic subjects and their social skills. In this way, I help them better determine and understand what is happening at a particular time in the world around them. We also work on ways they can better learn to relate to others. We can do this by practicing various examples together. I believe that assistance in both academic and social skills will provide the greatest advantage for the student with Aspergers.

college counseling

I have been trained at Harvard University in College Admissions Counseling. I have 11 years of experience helping students and parents prepare for, and complete, the admissions requirements for a number of different colleges and universities. I help them from the beginning of the search for several ideal colleges to which to apply, to ensuring that the student's college essay is appropriate, well-written and unique. I help students decide which advanced tests to take, such as AP Exams or SAT II tests, and I help them prepare for those tests, as well. Finally, I look at their "extracurriculars" to make sure we are using them in the best way to highlight the uniqueness of the student.

ADD/ADHD

I have a Masters and ABD PhD in Special Education. I have been taught how to teach students who have attention difficulties in both the verbal and mathematics areas. I have tutored many students who had ADD and/or ADHD. Most of these students were very intelligent. Together we found ways to help them stay more interested in their subjects. The student and I also worked together to create ways for their teacher to assist the student in staying on track and on topic during the class. I have also written IEPs and have advocated for, and implemented, accommodations for students with ADD/ADHD.

study skills

I have a B.S. in Chemistry and English and a Masters in Education. My PhD AND is in Special Education. I have tutored and taught over 200 students. I am also a state certified teacher. I am currently teaching study skills and algebra to a brother and sister in Battleground. I help them with backpack organization and homework, test studying.

special needs

I have a Master's in Special Education and a PhD ABD in Special Education. I have tutored and taught students with special needs for about eight years. I have worked with students with ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Learning Disabilities (both Verbal learning disabilities and Performance learning disabilities. I have worked with children on the autism scale, particularly those with Asperger's. I seem to connect very well with students with special needs, and they like me because I am understanding, patient and fair. I think this is partly because I believe in differentiating a lesson for each child, according to his or her abilities and present skills. Also, my daughter had a learning disability and I tutored her, so I know what specials needs academic issues are like for both the parent and the child.

elementary (k-6th)

I have been an educator for more than 25 years. I am certified, with a Master's in Education, to teach Elementary (K-6th) students. I am also certified to teach Special Education, and have taught many students who do learn differently. I am ESL certified and have taught more than 30 ESL students. Over the past 25 years, I have taught and tutored more than 170 elementary students. I have tutored elementary students for a total of more than 1700 hours. I also teach Pre-School, Kindergarten Readiness, and Kindergarten. I teach all elementary math, including pre-Algebra and geometry, when warranted. I like to emphasize the importance of a thorough grounding in the skills of using multiplication, fractions, decimals, and percent. I also tutor elementary science, history, geography, English, researching, note taking, grammar, spelling and writing (both block and cursive.) Along with learning the mechanics of writing, we learn how to create a four or five paragraph essay, as well as how to include those ever-so-important details in the essays. I teach reading by incorporating both phonics and site words. The student combines several initial letters with different word endings. For example, the student puts a card with the initial letter "C" next to a card with the ending letters "AT." The student can then sound out the letters until hearing the word CAT come from their own mouths! I speak and teach Spanish. I encourage my students, whenever possible, to try to speak only Spanish during our lesson. Lastly, I available to prepare students to take standardized tests, such as the ISEE, the SSAT (and, for older students, the PSAT, SAT and ACT).

Spanish

I speak, read, and write Spanish. I have taken Spanish classes in college. I stay current by participating in three different Spanish Conversation Circles in Vancouver and Portland. In these "circles" we speak only Spanish. I also enjoy speaking Spanish in "real life" circumstances. I think it is valuable for children to be able to use, and apply, their Spanish language skills in real life.

Jennifer is very great algebra tutor. We are very pleased with Jennifer and the results we are having with her tutoring our son. Jennifer is very positive, encouraging, and patient and communicates clearly. Our son has been coming home after tutoring with a smile on his face. His confidence is going by the day. Thanks, Jennifer, for helping!

Shayna R. from Battle Ground, WA

So awesome! Patient, understanding and works well with my 6th and 7th grader. In today's society with over crowding classrooms, and lack of one on one for the "average" student, I am so excited to have Jennifer working with my kids! Exacted for a long time relationship with our tutor!
